“Horrible, Dirty, and Loud”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

This property is not up to Marriott standards. Mold around tub. Windows have NO insulation. Staff is rude. Very poorly managed. Do not stay here. The cheap published rate should tell you something. You get what you pay for at this Marriott. Filth, noise, and rude employees.

I stayed here overnight as a stop on route from San Diego to Las Vegas. Following on from the 5* report I gave of the Marriott in San Diego the couple of nights that proceeded this.

The pictures look great of this hotel, but I wonder if I stayed at the same place!

The room was small and dingy, old, tired and reminded me of staying in a cheap motel.

The bathroom was awful. The bath itself was on old cast iron bath that was probably the shallowest I have ever sat in, filled to almost overflowing and not deep enough to cover my knees. (I am pretty average in size)

No fridge, no water in room, no free internet, no wireless internet. In this day and age it should be a must have.

Went down for dinner and had to search for a member of staff to server us, when she did, she was really nice and nothing was too much trouble, the staff do try hard here.

Behind the hotel is a big multi story car park, I get the impression they normally charge for this too.

Also behind the hotel is a large building site.

This hotel is not the type of Marriott I am used to...

Location is pretty good and parking is easy due to the garage. Moments from the 60 freeway, across the street from a CVS, Starbucks and an easy walk to the area of Riverside with decent restaurants.

This is not a flashy property, though the lobby and restaurant renovation definitely improves over what was there. Service has always been good here over multiple stays.

Rooms are standard Marriott, so nothing bad. Always quiet.

They have to do something about the purple lights. :-)

Room Tip: higher floor can afford a better view.

Have stayed @ this property over a dozen times a year, has always been everything a downtown Marriott needs to be. Clean, Convenient, Casual, Close to the center town for resources, no flash
bang, just a nice straightforward hotel.

Room Tip: they are rebuilding the Riverside Convention Center, (next door) if your a late bloomer, stay on the...

Had a one night stay for a conference. Hotel was clean and staff excellent. Emmanuel at the front desk went out of his way to find me an upgraded room and early check-in. The Concierge Lounge was smaller than most Marriott's, but had good service and food. The whirlpool mini-suite was spacious. The parking and internet were included in the rate. Did not use the internet, but my co-workers reported that it was slow. There is construction of the convention center during the day, but did not notice any noise or traffic. Was on a room street side and could hear the occasional truck going by. Also, the air conditioner was a bit noisy. All in all, a good stay.

I participated in a conference at the Marriott Riverside, staying there three nights. The conference being in dowdy downtown Riverside, adjacent to the (renovating? dead?) convention center I didn't expect much. But over and over I was pleasantly surprised.

The room was quite nice. Comfortably appointed and large, with a couch (fold out?) and desk. Reasonably good wireless internet, although they charge for it. Quite clean, with a nice bathroom.

I had breakfast in the restaurant each morning. I didn't have one, but there was a custom omelette option that looked pretty good. I was impressed by the fresh fruit offerings, which were exceptional. I also took advantage of the small bar in the lobby. Very nice bartenders, and a decent selection of on-tap beers. They make a quality martini. We had one lunch and one dinner in the hotel as part of the conference, and I was surprised at how good both were.

Every single employee was gracious and bent over backwards to help. I tried to print my boarding pass in the business center, but the printer was out of ink -- no problem, the busy front desk clerk just did it for me. Every experience was like that: how can I help you, sir?

Convenient parking garage adjacent to the hotel. It's downtown, and a very short walk to the very special Mission Inn.

I didn't pay for it, but the price was extremely reasonable. Don't get me wrong -- this is just another Marriott in a lot of ways, and your standard conference experience. But it was also clear to me that this is a very well-run property, with a terrific staff. For a conference in downtown Riverside, it greatly exceeded my (complete lack of) expectations, so it really deserves five stars. Great job, Marriott Riverside!
