Located within the Mission Inn property the food and service at this italian restaurant was outstanding. priced. The very comfortable outside patio is located on a pedestrian only steet. The menu and wine list both have a nice variety of choices reasonably priced.

We went during the holidays with a large group of friends. Even though we dined outside on a very cold evening, we were plenty warm with the outdorr heaters. Food was great, everyone enjoyed their meals very much. The atmosphere is great...I want to go back in the summer, it would be nice to dine there on a warm summer evening, too!

Went to see the Festival of the Lights and had dinner there. We were more interested in the Festival and the Christmas atmosphere than the food so we were not very demanding, nor expecting much but we were dissapointed. Here are some details: A Parmesan Chicken "Entree" which makes you think, plenty of chicken , little pasta, was the opposite. LOTS of pasta and thinly sliced ckichen breast that looked more like an ornament than the actual main ingredient.
Kids Pizza (huge by the way-enough for 2 kids) was made with very cheap cheese. The kind that turns into greasy cardboard the moment it gets cold. YUK.
Salads had a vinaigrette that tasted like nothing but orange juice, so it kind of spoiled the salad itself. Last but not least, we were all looking forward to the famous cupcakes form next door (which are served at the Trattoria as well), and we ordered 5 different kinds! We were truely dissapointed with every single one...@ $3.50 /piece...not fun. Even the kids left them un-eaten..they merely nibbled on them.
On the brighter side: great atmosphere, the outdoor tables overlook a pedestrian walkway full of vendors and the Christmas lights are visible from there as well. The service was good considering the palce was completely packed and we had a table of 8. I probably wouldn't go back though. There are many other restaurants in this area that look worth visiting.

There is no doubt that the atmosphere, dining beneath the lighted arches just outside the historic Mission Inn, is a truly great expereience. Sit at the tables after the sun has set, sipping wine, and watching the world go by. But man does not live by atmosphere alone.

My casaer Salad was freat and perfectly dressed.
Noce bread.
Our waiter was attentive.
So much for the good points.

Now for the rest.

The menu is limited: two appetizers.
My wife's salad was drenched in dressing.
My spiciy pasta dish with hot Italian Sausage was left swimming in a pool of oil.
My wifes pasta dish with carmelized onions and bacon was uninspiring.
The other entre choices were limited and the portions small, esp at $15.

It's nice to take the love of your life to nice places, and I certainly don't mind top dollar.
But it has to be for a top shelf experience.
This isn't it.
