Unusual architecture, great hotel with three restaurants, Kelly spa, museum and tour, million plus Christmas lights, in the center of downtown, Fox Theatre next door, several other good restaurants and bars - clubs nearby.

The museum isn't much to see; the only real reason to go there is to sign up for the tour of the hotel, which is a great tour!

This hotel is not just a pleasant place to stay, but a true experience.

As a native of Riverside for 60 years I have seen the Mission Inn in all of its stages of use. Their most recent management has done a most excellent job restoring the building back to its original state, and improving the downtown mall area with all the wonderful shops and restaurants. Designer Mr. Miller's vision of the California/Spanish fusion is just breathtaking. The restaurants within the Mission Inn are upscale but not intimidating at all. The fabulous Sunday brunch is unchallenged anywhere in the region. Make reservations well in advance, especially close to the Holidays. Wedding services and the chapels are incredible with exceptional service at all levels. The Christmas Festival of Lights cannot be missed with the animated figures, music, carriage rides, and sheer on the mall.

As a native of Riverside for the past 25 years I believe the Festival of Lights is one of the most spectacular events in Southern California. It has been featured on television from Good Morning America to Huell Howser on PBS. The event takes place in our very charming downtown Riverside on Mission Inn Ave. This area is surrounded by architectural gems such as the old courthouse and the Fox Theater. But downtown Riverside is well known for its Mission Inn. The inn was founded by Canadian native Frank Augustus Miller who was one of the developers of the city of Riverside. The Mission Inn has housed actors, athletes, and even several presidents (Google it). During the Festival of Lights, the Mission Inn serves as the centerpiece for the entire event. The lighting ceremony is held there annually on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Thousands of people from all over the country swarm to Riverside to witness the magic. HOT TIPS: If you can afford to stay at the Inn then you must stay at one of the suites facing the corner Main and Mission. Eat at the Old Spaghetti Factory, have dessert at Casey's Cupcakes, take in a play at the FOX, and drink at the Salted Pig. All of these places are within four blocks from the Mission Inn.

It is a lovely museum with great history of the city of Riverside and of the Mission Inn. The chapel is beautiful. I thought the cost was expensive. The hours are limited.
