Farris' Diner is like a place you'd see on Guy Fieri's Diners Drive Inns and Dives. For me, it's a little slice of Americana in the desert. It's owned by the Farris clan - a sweeping Ridgecrest family numbering in the hundreds who are involved in every part of Ridgecrest life - business, the press, even politics. Because of this, many of the staff, including servers and cooks, are Farris's. Which makes it that much more personal and homespun.
The decor is 50s malt shop - with black and white pictures of locals during that era - in parades, at a prom - and early photos of the area before it became "developed."
The food is great diner fare - lunches are tasty, sandwiches ample, soups homemade, salads fresh. And if you have room, and the season is right, you must have a piece of Cherie Farris' fresh strawberry pie - the stuff that dreams are made of.
Farris' Diner is not fussy or pretends to be something that it's not. I'ts clean, clever, friendly and fun. Because it's tucked away from the rest of the town strip, it's probably oft times missed by travelers - which is a shame, because it's definitely worth a visit - or three!
