This is a lovely jewel of a restaurant, and I always love the food! I've always had attentive waiters, and the owner is sublime! It can get a little loud when full, especially in the center room, but you are not reduced to shouting to your companions. I most enjoy sitting at the window banquettes overlooking the harbor - day or night.

Four of us ate at Salute on Saturday night. We had a great table by the window with wonderful views of the marina and the two who'd ordered starters were pleased - the clam chowder was nice and the bruschetta was outstanding - plenty of garlic! But the 4 main courses were disappointing. The linguine with clams was bland and tasteless - the person who ordered it added salt, pepper and more olive oil from the table to try to give it some flavor; it's almost as though the plain pasta was put on the plate right from the pot. The Zuppa d'Pesce was described as rather ordinary tomato soup with some pasta and seafood thrown in, not something more akin to cioppino as had been promised (esp. for $19). Again, pretty bland, no garlic to be tasted, no herbs - disappointing. The lamb shank was delicious, though salt and pepper were both needed/added at the table. The Pizza Margherita was OK, but served cold on a cracker-thin crust - fine if you like that style, I guess. Still hungry, we ordered some gelato and sorbet which were good. We suggested to the owner that some spumoni ice cream would be good on the dessert menu, but got the sense that she didn't know what we were talking about - she started talked about grappa and lemoncello. Did she think spumoni was a liqueur? Oh well, Salute is nothin' to write home about.

We had had one disappointing experience at Salute several years ago, but decided to try it again because of its convenient location and attractive setting. It is still convenient and the setting is still attractive, but it was again a disappointing experience. While set right on the water (and also with a lovely room with fireplace insdie), all the glass makes for a LOT of noise and voices carrying from table to table. Our food was just okay--good linguini but not very good clams, lamb chops cooked with thought, but the quality of the meat was not high enough. The creme brulee was mediocre, leaving us with regret that we had expended so many calories. Maitre d was very cordial, server overly cheerful ("what have WE decided on, many superlatives). I can't say we'll never return, but we will not be taking guests there.

One of my favorite restaurants! I've been here with family and friends many, many times over the last 20 years and we have always had a very nice experience. Whether seated by the window looking at the spectacular view of the marina, or at a table in the warm and pretty fireplace room, the atmosphere here is wonderful. The waitstaff has always been very friendly and the food is always delicious. We've had many birthday and anniversary special occasion meals here, usually dinners, but I've also been here once for brunch and a few times for lunch. It's always a pleasure to eat here.

Four of us had an average meal at this restaurant. Our friends from England paid for the meal, and as we finished our coffee, the manager came to the table and very loudly and aggressively proclaimed that there was something wrong with the payment and that the tip was not large enough. This was said at full volume and the busy went quiet as it was shouted at us. Our friend had paid or the meal by card and were intending to tip in cash as we left. It was totally humiliating. Please tell your friends not to bother with this place.
