The hotel had wonderful service and nice extras including a nice light meal spot, bar, restaurant and a free shuttle from airport. This made it possible to take shuttle to airport and BART into the city albeit with a bit of a wait each time. I would recommend a shuttle each half hour. The area around the hotel is quite limited for dinner etc but there is a small shopping area within a ten minute walk.

Normally I review after vacation stays but this is one of the nicest places I've stayed in on a business trip. The place is gorgeous. The staff greets you in French which you'll either love or hate. The rooms are lovely. They give you a nice collection of toiletries. Every room comes with a Keurig with very tasty coffee and a darn fine bed. There is a couch and coffee table in the room and complimentary wifi. If you don't feel like leaving the building there is a restaurant, restaurant/bar and gym. On warmer days you can walk along the man made lake outside.

I imagine you will be at this hotel on business. You'll be too tired to really want to go anywhere and if you do you can expense a cab or just take your rental. Right? Why am I saying this? Well, the hotel is near nothing. The nearest restaurants are like half a mile away. Burlingame is cool but, well, you can't walk. The In and Out burger is even a 10 minute walk. My rating of excellent is from the perspective of a business traveler who was either shuttled around or just too tired to do more than have a scotch in the bar after hours. For vacation, maybe not. For business, tell your travel department about this place if you should be in Silicon Valley.

We did not start our stay out on a happy note. We took a cab from the port of San Francisco to the hotel. We did not know how far it was until we were halfway there and I asked if we were there yet. $125 later, we were out of the cab. I was furious. We went inside of the hotel. We were checking in far earlier than their check in time. Marily heard me stating how we were on the last stop of our honeymoon and our disappointment with how much the cab ride cost. Her fingers started clicking away on the computer and in the meantime, she advised that we could have taken a cab from the port to the airport, and then taken their shuttle from the airport. Good to know and think of for the future. The next statement that came out of her mouth was completely unexpected. She advised that she bumped up our room so that we could enjoy our last night and that would hopefully take the sting out of our cab ride. That was very kind of her and she didn't have to do that. Some things to note before we went up to our room. There are water bowls outside for dogs, since they allow dogs, which we thought was an awesome touch! The bell hops are top notch and you will never have to open a door for yourself or have to lift a piece of luggage that you do not want to. The lobby is very modern and classy.
We head upstairs and I am confident that they have little cameras to know when you are there and need an elevator because the elevators were always on the floor we were on and available. We walked to the end of the hall and entered our room. We had a living room that is bigger than the one in our single family house, a desk with a chair, flat screen tvs, great view of the lake, separate shower and soaking tub, and separate bedroom with the most comfy king bed we have laid on in a long time.
We went back downstairs and had Marily call Enterprise to come pick us up. We had a tour of Alcatraz and there was no way that we were going to pay the ridiculous cab fee back and forth again. They came right away to pick us up and before you knew it we were driving back to the city.
When we returned to our room from our day in San Francisco sightseeing, we found chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of Fiji water in the room. Enclosed in an envelope was a hand written card congratulating us on our marriage and on the back they had various staff from the hotel sign the card with their own comments like we were all long lost friends. We have never EVER had a hotel show this huge of a personal touch. Thank you Marily and Hotel Sofitel for our fabulous stay. We will definitely be stopping through again!!!

Room Tip: If you are celebrating anything, advise them. If you have questions, ask them.

I was sceptical of this hotel viewing the other reviews. But this hotel gave us one of the best service and stay experiences ever. I was so impressed when they upgraded us to the lake view room without even asking. It had the most serene view of the lake and the mountains. The room was comfy and the sleeping on that bed was like floating on the clouds. I have never had a more restful sleep in a hotel before.
If I have to say a negative, I missed the mini bar (they had lotsa vending machines outside and a lounge in the hotel) and the toiletries were not replaced on the third day.
But all I would remember from the stay is how helpful the staff is and the super comfort of the hotel it promised to give. Recommend 100% especially if you are on a business trip. Its conveniently mid way between Bay area and SFO.

The hotel is a wonderful 4star with a very helpful staff and great food. It is located about 15 mins away from SFO with a shuttle service to and from the hotel every hour. If you have a car, it is a wonderful hotel to stay as well, there is a large parking area for free. If you don't want to drive into the city you can take the shuttle to the airport and the train from there.
Breakfast is very very good
