“Great view and Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

We stayed just one night at this hotel nestled in a lovely marina. If you're able to get a room with a view out to the ocean, it'll be a bonus. Seals frequently pop their heads up out of the water and sailboats drift by; very peaceful. And the sunset was awesome! The service was phenomenal from the moment we were greeted at the front gate by Alex and then treated like special guests by Alexander at the front desk and Hayden who escorted our suitcases up to our room. Later, when we were relaxing in the lobby area overlooking the water, the manager (Sebastian)walked up and chatted with us for a few minutes to see how our visit was going. Wow, when does that every happen? In fact, the entire staff made us feel special. Our stay was too brief, but very pleasant.

Room Tip: Ocean front if you like gorgeous sunsets and lively ocean wildlife

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We are so fortunate to be tucked between the beautiful Pacific Ocean and our marina. Seals are our most frequent guests along with dolphins and endangered birds. Service is our specialty at the Portofino hotel, and I am pleased that Alex and Hayden treated you as the special guests that you are. Sebastian is an excellent leader, taking the extra time to ensure every stay is a positive one. I look forward to sharing your postive feedback with all of our team members.

Thank you so much for leaving this review.

Warmest wishes,

Another great all day meeting with lunch. The Portofino is such a beautiful location and their catered banquet meals are always good. Afterward, we often go to Baleen for drinks and appetizers to enjoy unwinding from the day.

Attended a Board meeting today and have to commend the property for its excellent service and amazing food! No one could go hungry and everyone enjoyed the creative breakfast and lunch entrees. The afternoon cracker jacks and licorice (along with the salsa and other goodies) were tempting enough to eat even though there wasn't an ounce of room left with my appetite.

We appreciated making a long meeting day that much more productive and enjoyable.

Room Tip: Take time to enjoy Baleens bistro and lounge after your meeting or, and probably better, bring walki...

We have the pleasure to stay at the Portofino Hotel & Marina for the second time and enjoy it as much as the first time. The staffs are wonderful and made us feel like at home especially Sebastian and Stephanie. Sebastian was very understanding and help us find a room on the 3rd floor. We usually like to stay on a high floor so that we can enjoy the view. Stephanie was very and offer the rollaway bed. Kevin from the concierge team also very nice to help us with the direction to running/bike trail on The Strand.

We have stayed at many nice hotel from California to Washington DC and this is one that we will remember most. You feel right at home as soon as you enter the hotel. The Living Room/Lounge is open and very well decorated, even better with a view of the Pacific ocean. We also like the complimentary beach bike. We borrowed the bikes and enjoy the stroll down the Strand which is the most beautiful bike path in my opinion. We were biking next to the ocean, there are many restaurant and shop and beautiful houses. Baleen Restaurant on site has great Happy Hour and very good food. Overall, we enjoy the entire stay and would come back again. Thank you Sebastian for all your help!

Room Tip: Ocean view are amazing

Baleens happy hour is a recipe for a good time, and we invite you back to join us for it anytime.

WOW WOW WOW! What an AMAZING hotel! I don't know where to begin, honestly. First, the service.

We came in right at 8pm and really wanted to catch the sunset from our balcony ocean view room. The valet told us to leave the car with him (with all our stuff) and to run to our rooms. He told us not to worry, that he'll keep the car till we finished watching the sunset and were ready to come down.

The check-in staff also took to our wish, and checked us in super quickly and had us on our way, in time to catch the sun dip below the horizon of the Pacific Ocean. Every staff member, who we interacted with, was the friendliest we've ever encountered. And this was on a trip, where we stayed in 7 hotels in California!

The hotel itself is beautiful, with a nautical theme, plenty of natural light and ocean air. The lobby is so beautiful and light and cozy that you just want to claim it as your living room. We sat there, late in the night, with a bottle of off-dry Riesling, enjoying the ocean breeze, and then moved toward the fireplace for the last half an hour. They serve delicious fresh (and free) lemonade after 4pm, which is just a total treat. The wifi in the lobby is also free (though you have to pay for it in the room).

The rooms - wow the rooms! Spend a bit more and make sure you have the ocean view, at least on the 2nd, if not the 3rd floor. It's worth it. You see kayakers, paddle boarders and, best of all, seals! These little guys live in the harbor, and are everywhere. So cool! The balconies are the best - you can sit there, with your breakfast, watching all of this beauty. To your left is a curving coastline, dotted with seaside houses, which made us remark that the whole thing looked very much like Nice or some part of the French Riviera.

The rooms are big, with ours having an L-shape, to make it feel even larger. The beds, and especially the bed sheets, are the best we've ever encountered. They were just luxurious and it was the best sleep we've had in a long long time. We ordered breakfast into the room, and it was delivered promptly by a super courteous attendant. My fiancee was still asleep and when I let him in, he literally walked on his toes, in order not to disturb her.

Across the entrance to the hotel is Baleen, a restaurant that feels rather like a ship. Its windows face the marina, and we spent an amazing hour and a half, with a glass of wine and a scrumptious lobster mac and cheese, looking at the yachts and enjoying the breeze.

I do not know enough superlatives to further describe this hotel. Even after one night, it will hold a special place in my heart and will definitely be one I will return to whenever I am back in the Los Angeles area.

Room Tip: choose a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor and make sure you go for the ocean view. It's not much mor...

I always love to read a review about excellent service. I look forward to complimenting the valet and front desk staffs on what sounds like a perfect arrival experience. Our pleasing aesthetics ranging from our picturesque lobby to our well appointed guest rooms leave our guests coming back for more. Ocean view rooms are a real treat, and keep a look out, you may see dolphins joining the seals right outside your room. I look forward to congratulating our room service department on delivering an excellent breakfast.

Baleen, our restaurant, specializes in serious food and whimsical mood offering decadent dishes ranging from your lobster mac and cheese to duck carnitas.

You are always welcome to join us here at the Portofino Hotel.

Warmest wishes,

Nathan N.

This is a wonderful hotel with so many things to offer. Beautiful views of the Marina and ocean. The sea lions are so fun to watch. You are close to Hermosa Beach. The staff is top notch, professional and accommodating. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a place that is not right on the Ocean. This is tranquil but with many activities within a short walk.

The hotel was in a great location. We were in a block of reserved rooms for a wedding and they gave us a room with a great view. The only negative was that the AC could have been a bit stronger. The lobby was very charming - I would recommend it to friends.
