“Nice Hotel but some things are a concern”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2010

I really liked this hotel for its location. Close to the Marina, shopping and nice restaurants.
The lobby area is very pleasant.
The staff did an excellent job to make sure we had a nice stay.
The rooms are pretty standard, not as clean as I would have expected.
Older furnishings, some not working too well. Beds are very hard.
The part I didn''t really like is the high cost to park. The hotel has a covered parking garage, which is nice, but the fee is not. I saw several hotels in the area with free parking.
Also internet access has a fee, unless you use the business center which was always crowded.
I do not the think the hotel is 31/2 star property. 3 at best.
Pool and spa area closed for renovation, but hotel made arrangements with fitness center to use their facilities.
We had a pleasant time even with the things I saw that needed improvement.

I stayed four nights here over New Year's. Hotel is a bit dated, but still is a nice place to stay. Can't beat the price (I paid $100 a night including fees and taxes) and the location. To get around the $20 a night parking charge, simply park in the neighborhood. I was able to park one block from the hotel each night for free with no trouble. The front desk even suggests it. I was even able to find a free wireless connection from my hotel room.

Overall the hotel is in a great (safe) area with plenty of great restaurants and bars, and they don't charge an arm and a leg like most places in LA do.

Went here for the Rose Bowl. We wanted a beach access hotel in this area. We reserved a 2 bed room with ocean view. When we arrived, the desk clerk said they wouldn't accommodate us because they wanted to hold these type rooms for a larger party We were ready to walk out at this time, but the clerk said we could have a room overlooking the pool, and you could see the beach from there, but only a king bed. We would have looked around, but we had to be at an event, and didn't have time to look around for another hotel. The pool was under repair and drained, and the hot tub next to it was in a thousand pieces. You could see a few feet of the beach if when you looked over the parking garage, and the trash dump. The pool and hot tub was part of their promotion. There is nowhere to park, so they charged us $20 a day to use their garage. Internet access is an additional $10 a day. Neither of these charges are apparent in anything we had seen before. The room was less than average. The TV is probably 10-15 years old (cathode ray tube), the phone is about 20 years old, and you need to read the room manual to get a wake up call, as the auto-buttons do not give you access to anything. Many of the electrical wires (about a foot high, and 8 inches wide-tangled in a ball) are bunched into a single outlet, that I am sure is a Code Violation. One lamp didn't work. This place is run on the el cheapo, I am sure it uses its name to attract one-timers, but not repeat customers. We gave it One Star (because of the 70 some degree weather).

The hotel knows how to take care of their priority club members. I received an upgrade to a suite that was huge including a 40"+ tv on the wall! In addition free wifi was provided daily for their gold and platinum members. Yes, the hotel has aged - but, it is still very clean and nice. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance - so no car is needed. This hotel offered some nice hospitality.

Hotel was booked for me by Pricess Cruises as a 2-night post-cruise stay in LAX. Not being able to check-in until 4pm when we arrived straight from the ship at 10.30am was a serious problem. Never got to see LAX as it was too far away!! Even the nearest shopping Mall is 5 miles away. Comfortable beds but service poor: breakfast room-service order never collected from outside our room so we had to go without breakfast on day of departure. Hotel in need of a re-dec. Cracked basin in bathroom. Conference side seemed very busy - perhaps thats what they concentrate on.

We booked this hotel through Priceline for one night to cut a commute in half. We found the hotel entirely mediocre -- nothing bad but nothing great. If one's expectations are high, one will be disappointed. The rooms look like they haven't been renovated since the 1980s. The room design, decor and fixtures seem old. But it's passable. It's like a high-end motel. The biggest frustration was that Wi-Fi was $10 for 24 hours and the signal strength was 1 bar out of 5 so Internet kept dropping -- no refunds on Wi-Fi. Also, parking is $20, which is high but perhaps not in a beach community. I would hesitate to go back but if so, would go in with much lower expectations. At least there are nice restaurants in the area. Also, a huge perk is there's a giant Gold's Gym next door that is free to guests. I'd take advantage of that if I were staying there for a while.

Stayed a few nights at this place and it worked out fine. The good: price, location, lobby, lounge, staff, noise, pool. The bad: wear and tear, parking, cleanliness. The place definitely is ready for a remodel. Wallpaper peels, bathroom sealants are worn out, doors are falling apart. We parked across the street for free and had no problems. Ice skating on the beach across the street looked fun.
