In my eternal quest for the perfect Happy Hour, we tried the Chart House in Redondo Beach. This location is just up the street (north on Harbor Drive) from the Cheesecake Factory and Blue Water Grille (the latter is totally over-rated, in my opinion) and not far from the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Portofino Inn, and the site of the future Redondo Shade Hotel. I believe Happy Hour is from 4:30 - 6:30, and the restaurant is right on the ocean in case you are in search of the sunset.

Maybe the Chart House has a new Happy Hour menu, but what a find! Cocktails $6 - 7, decent wine by the glass is $5, and they have a selection of appetizers ranging from $4 to $6 each. The serving size for wine is good, and the serving size of appetizers varies from small to medium. We tried the calamari (quite good) the ahi nachos (REALLY good) and the lettuce wraps (also really good) each for $5.

All in all, the Chart House has a view of the ocean similar to that of the Cheesecake Factory (since it's only about a half-mile away) in a somewhat quieter context, and the appetizer menu for Happy Hour had some healthier options.

I have been a customer of the Chart House forever, love the menu, but prices have gone up exponentially since we used to go regularly for dinner. The ambiance is wonderful, and so I'll have to satisfy myself with Happy Hour, for the most part. Go and relax in a very nice atmosphere.

we were in for dinner at a quiet sunday evening. The staff member at the front desk was very friendly, getting us to our table within 5mins. Waiter was then ok and took our order. He also asked about desert which we found very weird since we did not even have a bite of bread at this time, but ok. we ordered two filet steak, plus cesars, plus sides. Unfortunately steakes were both well done although we wanted medium. No real excuses, just indifferent behaviour. Our check was not adjusted, we had to pay the full price. Not quite customer oriented. Next time we will avoid CH, there are better options with better service...

From the time we walked in, the staff was friendly and courteous. We met one of the bar servers, Danielle and immediately felt right at home. We were promptly seated at a surfside table and the added ambiance made the night even more memorable. Regrettably , I have forgotten the name of our server but she was pretty, knowledgeable and charming. We discussed many menu options with her and she took her time to explain them thoroughly and made each option sound sumptuous.
We, then, ordered a bottle of wine recommended by Danielle, a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc from Napa labeled Park Side which may one of the best whites we ever tasted. Great Recommendation. One of our party order salmon garlic mashed potatoes and another had a beautiful golden tilapia that was exquisitely prepared and tasted wonderful. My choice was the Maryland Crab Cakes with Chesapeake Blue crab meat. As soon as I tasted them, I was whisked back to Baltimore. These were spectacular, as good as I have ever tasted. Each entree was perfectly cooked, flavorful and at proper temperature. The service was wonderful and our waitress deserves high marks for taking great care of us. Dessert was tops and it was part of one of our entree selections. but we all shared. Coffee was not an after thought and was full of fresh brewed flavor. While Chart House is a part of a chain, this place does not just mail it in. Make plans to enjoy a great meal here.

This location actually hangs out over the beach, and on high tide the waves lap at the cement support columns. Now for the food. Pretty much Chart House fare with an excellent salad bar (optional cost). Not the cheapest in town, but for special occasions, worth the money. Call ahead for reservations to get a table by the window. On the negative side: forced valet parking for a price and odd parking lot. Avoid valet by parking in paid city lot just outside the building.
