“Best Motel in Redding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2011

As the sign outside says this is "The Best Motel in Redding". It's attractive outside and in. Linens are first class. It has the usual micro, fridge, iron and board. The ice machine and laundry facilities are in a room entered with your key. We were disappointed with the elimination of the Bear Bites breakfast. Now you have the option of a prepackaged take-away-breakfast or a coupon that entitles you to breakfast at a restaurant which is 5 miles to the south via I-5.

The hotel is located far off of the I-5 freeway so you have to drive a fair amount if traveling. With the hotel rating being high, they are very busy, but only staff the front desk with one person in the evening when everyone is checking in. It took over 20 minutes just to check in. Breakfast is included but it is at a restaurant where you have to drive to get it... too slow if you are on a tight schedule. The hotel provides quickie breakfasts to go, but they do not explain you have to pick them up the night before. The office closes around 11:00 PM and was not open at 6:30 so no quickie breakfast for me. The hotel was clean and acceptable, but I have stayed in just as good motels in Redding much closer to walking distance food and groceries. Pass on this. One high point was Gironda's Italian Restaurant a mile and a half down the road ... a little bit like San Francisco prices, but the food was excellent.

Room Tip: They make you sign in blood with a $250 dollar fine that you will not smoke in the rooms or have pet...

RTL, General Manager at Travelodge Redding CA, responded to this review, September 27, 2011
Redding Travelodge is a couple miles off of the freeway. We are centrally located with easy directions to get here from any of the many highways and freeways that flow into Redding. Our front desk is trained to give anyone directions as well. Like this guest mentioned, because of the high ratings and ranking on Tripadvisor, we do tend to be full because most desire a value price out of the top selections. I agree that check in should never take 20 minutes, because of just hearing about this issue through a review, I can only surmise that there must have been multiple guests that came at the same time and to check in multiple rooms. That would take a little bit longer. The front desk tries to ensure that check in takes no longer then 5-10 minutes at the most. Often, because of practice of express check-in, we have all forms and paperwork ready to go for advanced reservations so all you have to do is sign and get your keys. We are sorry this guest had a longer check in then most but we ensure that future guest and readers, that is not the norm for RTL. The breakfast is at a nearby (3-5 minutes driving) local restaurant called Lumberjacks. It has been rated #1 breakfast spot in Redding by the locals for many years now. We offer this breakfast so you, the guests, can have more than just a warm glass of orange juice and a stale bagel. For people who choose to not take advantage of the free sit down breakfast, we do offer our “Breakfast-to-Go” bag that comes with juice, breakfast bar, yogurt, and applesauce. Because we are a limited service value added hotel we do close our hotel from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. I am an on-site manager so I am always on property as well as a stay over person to handle late check-ins. Anytime the office is open you are allowed to get the breakfast-to-go bags. At check-in we try to make sure we let you know any information you may need to know. Our customers are the one thing that has made our business so good! We never have had “bottom of the barrel customers” like this guest states but we do have strict no smoking policies and to offer the value pricing and over 30 plus free amenities we must make sure that such policies are covered. We have these so when someone checks into a non-smoking room they can be assured no one has smoked in the room before them. We do charge $250 if anyone smokes in the room but it is not charged unless this has happened. It doesn’t appear we pleased this particular guest but we hope you can read the other 260 plus reviews posted the most in the region, by the way! You’ll see that we are still Redding’s “Best Kept Lodging Secret!” We hope to see you soon!

We felt the rating that other travelers gave this hotel was very accurate for the most part. The beds were great, when you wake up and haven't thought of the bed at all, you know you had a good night sleep. It was quiet that is for sure. The bathroom needs some attention. The floor needs some upgrading and the vanity area, a box of kleenex would of been a nice touch, bring your own. But the towels were wonderful, bright and clean.
We were moving from CA to OR and had a large rental truck, just FYI, their parking lot is tight, but they accomodated the truck nicely, but tight. And room for only one truck, otherwise you have to park down the street.
Upgrading the A/C would be a benefit as well, noisy off and on, but cooled the room beautifully.
The breakfast they offer at Lumberjacks, just two off ramps down, was good and a free breakfast at that. The portions were just right for average eaters. The service was upbeat and friendly. Worth the drive in our opinions.
Thank you Travelodge for a easy check in and out, friendly staff and helpful. We walked just a short walk to a Thai restaurant that the front desk recommended, it was wonderful food. The restaurant is called Janya's Thai.
Hope your stay is as pleasant as ours was..

On a trip from the bay area to Eugene Oregon our family stopped overnight to stay at the Redding Travelodge. Very clean, quite and large rooms. We asked for a recieved adjoining rooms. The only negative, if it is a negative, is that the room is so large and TV somewhat small, it was difficult to watch TV from bed. Otherwise, fantastic, especially for the price.

Took a nice walk/run from the hotel and passed over the Sacramento river. Very nice.

After reading reviews here, we booked for one night, traveling through. Good location, very clean, worth the rating others have given it! Especially for a budget type motel!
The bedding was nice, large towels, comfy bed, and the wi-fi worked great. The shower was a bit hard to adjust for temperature. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They give you breakfast at a restaurant, or one to go, consisting of applesauce, yogurt, granola bar, craisins, and juice.
I recommend this place, definitely for the price.

Room Tip: We requested a room at the back, away from street noise.

Wow!!! This Travelodge is definitely the best in their chain & definitely the best gem of Redding. Cleanest, brightest, quietest place we have stayed. Under $70 and worth every penny. My wife researched this thru Trip Advisor and glad she decided on this place. Roomy with very comfortable queen bed, small table with 2 chairs still left a lot of space to move around. Cherry wood armoire for TV and small dresser next to it. Very classy look to the room which you would expect in a $100 plus room. Free breakfast at a local restaurant that they are connected with even though it is a few miles away. We opted for the breakfast bag of goodies they give you at the front desk, consisting granola bar, yogurt, applesauce, craisins and a capri-sun drink. Great value, great location, GREAT motel. Thanks Travelodge Redding, we will return when we need a place to stay in Redding, CA.

Room Tip: get an early reservation for this motel as they sell-out often

It is important to me and my family when we travel to have confidence in the places that we stay. The Travelodge in Redding, CA on N. Market is one we have stayed at many times over the last six years. Sometimes it has been just myself; others my wife and I; others my grandaughter, her friends and two dogs. Each time we have been very comfortable and confident knowing it will be clean, safe, reasonably priced and quiet. We
always receive very courteous service from the time we make our reservation to the time we check out. Our need for the place to be dog and family friendly is of great help here. We found it interesting of the choice of breakfast in the morning (either a sit down near by restaurant or a prepared and healthy bag to go). Since we like to get right onto the road when we leave we almost always choose the latter. Having the microwave and fridge in the rooms is a good plus for us. Having the outdoor heated pool and the indoor whirlpool is great. I remember the first time my grandaughter, her friends and I stayed there (she was 7 then) she was elated with the room and the amenities. She is 13 now and we always stop there when we are passing through Redding. We have never had a problem with parking even when towing a utility trailer. Sure, the inn is off the highway a few minutes but worth it for the quiet and ease of entering the downtown area. We will be stopping there again.

Room Tip: Folks, just tell them what you need and they will do their best.
