Apples' River House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #4 of 9 Redding B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 12, 2011

Stayed here three nights and did not want to leave. Ric and Connie know how to run a B and B. Within minutes of arriving I felt as if I was going to be visiting with friends instead of normal vacation accomodations. The photos on the website while accurate, do not really show how nice the house and yard really are and you will not find a place cleaner than this with nothing out of place. My one complaint was going to be a squeaking noise during the night which I located the next morning. A bamboo shoot was rubbing against the gutter. Before I could even bring it to Ric's attention the problem was taken care of. The bedroom was large and the bed as comfortable as any I heve slept in. Breakfast each day was fruit, blueberry french toast, banana muffins, granola, yogurt and really good coffee. Healthy, tasty and all I wanted. Access to the bike trail is literally at the corner of the yard and is perfect for an early morning walk or ride. I would not stay anywhere else in Redding...

The Sacramento river trail is a great place to walk or ride a bike; and it's a hundred yards from your room. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, and well decorated. The hosts are more like family and bend over backward to make you feel at home. I've been to Apple's River House B&B twice in the last year and can't wait to return. The breakfast is always very tasty with lots of fresh fruit to compliment the main entree.

We've been coming to Apple's B & B for years and each year it gets better. The beautiful location, right on the Sacramento River, is perfect for walks, bike rides or a run. Rick and Connie are amazing hosts, who make sure each room is perfect; changing and enhancing the decor regularly. Their leisure and dining suggestions are always "right on." Breakfasts are great, whether you desire something light or a full blown breakfast. Would we stay anywhere else? Never! Enjoy! You'll be glad for the experience.

As a business traveler I have stayed at countless, and often times endless, hotels, motels, inns, and bed & breakfasts'. Apples' River House Bed & Breakfast has definitely become my favorite! The time old saying, "Location, Location, Location", holds true for Apples' B&B. It is located near many excellent eateries, the Sundial Bridge, and the Sacramento River and Trail. The accommodations at the B&B were above all expectations. The B&B and the individual rooms are kept immaculate. The beds are comfortable and often times I think I get a better nights rest than at my own home! Breakfast's are always delicious. You will not be disappointed. After that being said, the best part of staying at Apples' is the host's, Rick and Connie. They are beyond gracious and accommodating hosts. Their knowledge of Redding is excellent for recommendations on places to eat and things to do. Don't pass on the opportunity to stay at Apples' B&B, you will not regret it!

My husband and I recently stayed at Apple’s River House for two nights in the North Room; after reading other posts I’m compelled to clarify the facts of this beautiful modern B&B. Our room was unique and very nice; it had a very comfortable queen bed, a faux wood stove for atmosphere, a large bathroom with a garden tub and two chairs for sitting and reading, a balcony overlooking the very private outdoor garden with a view of the western mountains and the neighborhood; which by the way is separated by their gorgeous yard surrounded by a honeysuckle covered fence line that completely surrounds the yard, the river trail itself and a small undeveloped field. Very very quiet and cozy indeed.

We came to see the town and sundial bridge which is an easy walk right out their gate on the river trail from their inn or they have very nice bikes to use if so desired. The property does not sit on the river but is instead approx. 100 ft. back from the river but on the trail with only one home sitting next to it in the back…the B&B is in a very quiet cul-de-sac. The backyard/garden has two ponds, several areas to sit and relax with one of them being next to a fire pit and larger pond with a waterfall; it makes you feel as if you’re not in a town at all. The patio right off the living room is covered and very relaxing. The November nights were cool so we didn’t spend much time outdoors, however the fire pit and torches make for a nice atmosphere. The Inn has an intimate den with a very large flat screen tv. The two love seats are very comfortable for reading or watching tv however we didn’t travel to watch tv! One thing to note though is that there’s soft smooth jazz playing quietly during the day downstairs and outside adding a special element to the overall atmosphere; something you get at a resort setting which we found very relaxing.

The inside is amazing and spotless…..not a traditional Inn by any means. In fact it is ultra modern and warm, comfortable and inviting. You’ll just have to see it for yourself.

All rooms are well appointed and decorated with the same clean lined ultra modern appearance.; unique in every way and very comfortable and cozy.

There are three rooms upstairs all with balconies and private baths and a shower in just the south room. The Apples do live on site and are wonderful fun knowledgeable hosts that make you feel like family. They know the town and surrounding area very well and will steer you in the right direction whatever your needs. The rules, we were told when we got our key, is to make yourself at home. We did!

In the evening the wine is set out and is very good. They’ll ask you what you like to have for breakfast since they don’t have a set planned menu; we found they prefer to cater more to your likings rather than throw out something you don’t like or can’t eat; In general everything is healthy foods and they do have a large expanded continental breakfast with muffins, fresh fruits, various breads, healthy cereals, yogurts, teas, great coffee, etc. etc….in fact more food than you’ll need. They also surprised us the second morning with this fantastic blueberry stuffed French toast that was to die for!!

All in all we found an unexpected oasis and made new friends. The Apples are special indeed and the location is perfectly situated for all your needs.
What's not to love??

Our recent 3-nights at Apple’s House B & B was a most enjoyable business/pleasure stay. The host and hostess are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Redding has many, swell restaurants, so recommendations and directions with map, are most needed by Richard.

We stayed in the West Room, which is larger than the other two bedrooms. It included a large oval tub, (other rooms had showers only) two sitting chairs with footstool, and a small table with two chairs. In addition, we used them all, it was nice having extras like this when staying more than a single night.
Just so you know, your stay is actually in their personal home. When making reservations you are told this. You will be sharing with them as their guest, in their kitchen and dining table, the living room, the large screen TV room, very relaxful, nice backyard, etc etc. This could make some folks feel intrusive at times. My husband and I are quite social so this did not bother us too much.. .The Apples’ home is located in a large housing development in the nice northwest Redding area. All the bedrooms are on the second story and have small balconies over looking other homes’ properties. Not very private…

Having our own bikes, we took advantage many times of the great Sacramento River Trail. Literally right outside their backyard. Many miles of hiking and biking with other happy, healthy locals. They also have very nice loaner bikes.

I think my only disappointment was the 3 breakfasts. It was continental style, fat free and healthy and just OK. What actually is fat free half-and-half anyway? Simple and plain food selections…..I do so enjoy, and missed the “Wow” breakfasts that we often have at our usual B& B stays. It is a great price for the stay, so no gourmet breakfast was expected, just a bit more inventive or imaginative. I was wondering though about others Trip Advisor posters’ description of it as a “wonderful” and “awesome” breakfast ?? Since we often travel during quieter off-season times, I wonder if we sometimes are “short changed” in the breakfast department?

A friend and I decided we needed a short get away. Apples' River House Bed and Breakfast turned out to be the perfect spot to set out and explore the Sacramento River, Sundial Bridge, Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park. Ric and Connie provide a relaxing atmosphere with wine and a beautiful outdoor oasis. They are knowledgable about the area and happily give you a locals recommendations on things to do. The rooms are modern, clean and inviting. Breakfast was great with plenty of fresh fruit and coffee (always ready early). We will most certainly come back to Redding and definitley stay at Apples' River House Bed and Breakfast.
