“Great Pizza Napoli style!”
Reviewed February 23, 2011

We had lunch today and enjoyed the Pizza Quattro Fromagio and the Sausage and Pepper Pizzette from the wood burning oven. Pizzette's I think are only available at lunch and come with a small soup or salad. The crust was made with special Italian ingredients and tasted great. The pizzette which is oval shaped was cooked perfectly with a thin and crispy crust. The four cheese pie was a bit soft in the middle and probably could have been turned more in the oven. Cheese and sauce were authentic. The home made cannoli was superb.

We didn't experience any service issues but it wasn't crowded at all. Lunch might be the ticket to try and see if you like the food. I hear dinners are crowded.

“Not really a "gourmet, artisan" pizza.”
Reviewed January 7, 2011

Yes, the owner takes pains to use authentic, fresh ingredients in his pizzas but no, the results don't quite measure up to a good pizza in the old country. The crust was thin and light--but soggy in the middle and the ingredients on my Margherita-style pie, rather skimpy. As our waiter explained, their pizze are meant to be only starters so there's just a 12" size. So, unless you're a light eater, don't show up expecting to make a full meal of one. It didn't help that we were stiffed $6.50 for a bottle of carbonated water.

On the whole, we thought the meal over-priced.

“Fire the Manager!!”
Reviewed November 18, 2010

Recently, we visited this small pizza restaurant and will never return. From the moment I called for a reservation, to the yelling with Nick, its drama queen manager, as we left, this outfit lacked the professionalism and hospitality that we have become accustomed to when dining at better restaurants. Its front desk person and wait staff are extremely young and inexperienced and its manager has an attitude that obviously doesn't work for patrons and staff.

The reservation policy is crazy - - we were told that they were booked till 9PM on a Saturday night, yet, after "squeezing in" at 7:15PM, tables were available in the restaurant and on the patio. By 8PM, some restaurant tables were empty and we found ourselves alone on the patio after 8:15PM. Due to a reservation mistake caused by the front desk, we were berated in front of other patrons by the manager - - not to cause a scene, we accepted a table on the patio. Later, we asked the waitress about Nick, the manager, and were told that he can be abrasive, but was a minority owner, so, in his eyes, his behavior was acceptable. Apparently, the majority owner started the business a couple of years ago, and once the restaurant became successful, rarely visits. The service of the wait staff was slow and they appeared unhappy and not motivated. The entre and wine items were limited. No cream or milk meant no coffee and canoli for dessert. Attention to detail was nonexistent - - we frequently had to ask for refills. The waitress was VERY prompt in delivering our bill since she was wanting to leave promptly at 9PM.

Nick further berated us as we were leaving because we had not reserved our table - - such Napoleonic behavior I have not seen in my 40-year business career, let alone from a restaurant manager. Next time, we desire Italian food, we will stick to the better quality restaurants where good manners, managerial professionalism, attention to service, atmosphere and hospitality mean something because we didn't find it here.

“Pizza with a terrible attitude!”
Reviewed November 15, 2010

We planned to eat at Pizza e Vino with a couple of friends. We had heard that the pizza was very good. Just in case, we decided that our friends would make a reservation and we would meet them at the restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. We assumed that we did. She asked if our reservation was under the name of, what happened to be our friend's name. We said yes, got seated and waited for our friends to come in.
They arrived shortly, we looked over the menu and were ready to order. The manager, Nick, came over and started questioning whether we had a reservation. His attitude was very arrogant. As it turned out, without us knowing it, our friends had tried to make a reservation but it was not available. By coincidence, someone else with the same name had made the reservation for the same time. My husband and I had assumed that the person was our friend. An honest mistake. Our friends, saw us seated and just assumed that we had gotten a table.
Needless to say, Nick embarrassed us, took the underlined attitude that we lied about our reservation, and asked us to leave the table for the others and move to a patio table. We should have left right there and then.
But we decided to be a good sport, rise above it and not let it ruin our evening; an evening that got progressively worse. Service in the patio was slow. We were sat in a table meant for 2 and we were 4. We ordered a wine from the wine list and they were out of it, we picked another one, no problem. We ordered a type of pizza from the menu, and they were out of that one too. We ordered another one, no problem.
We asked the waitress who Nick was ,and she explained that he was the manager, part owner. We mentioned his rudeness and she acknowledged that he sometimes talks that way. She was sweet and apologized for the inconvenience. She worked very hard at making our evening a pleasant one. When we finished eating and were about to pay for our bill ($100.00 just for my husband and I for a bottle of wine, 2 pizzas and a very small side salad that cost $5.50) + our friends' check, we heard Nick's voice which was very loud. He was walking the guests who had the original reservation and he basically was mocking us with his words and attitude.
My husband decided to talk to him and let him know that his treatment was absolutely a disgrace and unprofessional. He complimented the food and our waitress' service, but as far as his attitude was concerned, his behavior was totally unacceptable. Nick became angry, started yelling that we lied about our reservation, not to go back to his restaurant...etc. etc. Not that we would ever consider going back and not that we would recommend it to any of our many friends and business associates.
He even came outside and started insulting the rest of us saying not to ever go back to his restaurant.
I have since read some of the reviews that some others have given to Pizza e Vino and noticed that we were not the only ones who had a terrible experience with Nick, the manager.
There is no excuse to treat guests in this manner. We have NEVER experienced anything like it before! My husband and our friends are the easiest going people and this manager managed to insult us beyond words. The pizza was good, but not worth the indigestion!

“Return Trip; Dinner for Five, One Hundred $eventy-Five”
Reviewed November 4, 2010

Reading the reviews since our last visit the message is the same; great food, horrible service. Started out OK but once the food arrived, it was down hill. Hostess did her best, but was clearly stressed and stretched too thin as was the wait staff. Two waiters for all the tables AND the bar is not enough. I think it's the way they book the room. As stated by others, rather than allow people to flow through first-come, first served, they insist on reservations and specific seating times. As a result, everyone shows up at once. The kitchen, staff, and customers get slammed and it's unsustainabe. I saw the tickets in the window grow from 2 to 10 in just a few minuutes. The whole thing just goes into melt-down. All the while the owner stands around and doesn't lift a finger to help.

To add insult to injury, the establishment had the nerve to place an "automatic gratuity" onto the bill. There were only 5 of us!!! We should have disputed it as it would not be collectable. I suspect the staff started getting stiffed on the poor service, so the only solution was to stick it to the customer on the bill. No service, no problem. We'll just put it on their tab.

Short-term, this place will continue to replace those custmers that vowed never to return nor recommend. Eventually, some big chain or investor with lots of money will duplicate the quality of the food and then add the service the rest of us missed somewhere nearby or perhaps in the next city over. Meanwhile, the owner will be clueless as what's going on as people start migrating away. Before you know it, Pizza e Vino will be Pizza e Closed. It may take another year, but it will happen.

We may get a carry out until we find a new place. And we will. Until then, we'll never go inside and subject ourselves to the poor service ever again
