The food was fine, service poor. No receipt for my Visa, had to wait and track down waitress to receive one.

Came to check out Rancho Valencia for a potential site of our annual physician retreat. Came to dinner at Veladora with our family of 5 (kids ages 2, 6, 8 y/o). Was initially worried that the resort and the restaurant would not be family friendly. But we were reassured at the door that kids were welcomed. The clientele at this resort is older and of upper class (rooms are approx $675 and up). The restaurant is the only one of property and is frequented by the locals. We were initially seated in the middle of the restaurant but requested to be moved to a booth. We were seated in a corner booth that was perfect for our family.
Service: Top notch. One of the best that I have been to at a resort restaurant. We were greeted by the restaurant manager at the very beginning and he welcomed us and reassured us that our kids were welcomed. The wine glasses were immediately replaced with plastic sippy cups for the kids. Children menus and coloring papers were brought immediately. Throughout the meal, multiple people checked in on us and made sure all was well. We had asked for the kids leftover to be packed. The waiter did that for us, left the doggy bag at the front, and gave us a checkout card for it. Never seen this before and it was really impressive. A+ for service.
Food: The menu was not terribly extensive, but had lots to choose from. We started off with a peach/scotch cocktail that was very tasty. They also had their own cab blend which was on draft (never heard of that before) and that was ok as well. First they brought us their bread which were small rosemary loaves and paired with with Olive oil (from temecula), 17 yr aged balsamic vinegar, and parmesan cheese. I have never experienced this trio before and it worked really really well. The vinegar was sweet and paired well with the cheese. We couldn't stop eating it (the server even packed a couple of loaves for us to take to go). The bread is baked daily in house. We started with the Lobster black truffle risotto and Fluke Crudo (fluke sashimi) and both were amazing. The risotto was creamy with nice chunks for lobster. We both had the prime rib cap for our entree. The rib cap was nice and flavorful. Cooked to perfection. Other choices included: veal, filet mignon, and duck. There were a good choice of pastas and a couple of vegetarian choices. I had the carmelized apple tartin with vanilla ice cream. Basically the apple was poached in carmel and was really really good. The wife had a cheesecake and it was ok.
We don't usually eat at high end restaurants. However we found the food to be sophisticated yet enjoyable even for our novice palate.

All in all, the restaurant was top notch in both flavor and service. We would not hesitate to return with our whole family. I also thought the value was fair.

We drove down from Temecula wine country on our way to San Diego and stopped here for a late breakfast. The building has apparently just gone through refurbishing, and it is beautiful. Very nicely done. The staff were all welcoming and very helpful. Unfortunately, the food was average and over priced, in our opinion.

First time here since the place reopened. Food was amazing and the service was excellent. I had the pan-seared filet mignon and a salad. I probably wouldn't order the salad again - the lettuce was somewhat bitter. Others with me ordered the carrot soup - it was delicious. For desert I had the creme brulee trio - outstanding. The wine list is extensive and reasonable. I love the decor, especially sitting on couches instead of chairs - much more relaxed and comfortable.
