Great fresh fruit - the watermelon slices were cut in heart shape for Valentine's weekend, good strong coffee and the best gravlax! I like the relaxed outdoor resort ambiance on the patio.

“Feel like you're in Mexico or Hawaii without leaving the South Bay!”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes is one of the greatest finds! The Catalina Kitchen has an outside eating area with views of the ocean and rugged Palos Verdes coastline. We particularly enjoy it on warm days. Breakfast is probably a few dollars more than a coffee shop, but the atmosphere and service can't be beat. If you arrive during off hours, there is free parking available. After your meal, enjoy a stroll throughout the grounds and take in the magnificence of the ocean activity. Boats, birds, whales, dolphins...depends on the day. On Friday and Saturday nights, enjoy a coffee or drink in the lobby area. They feature live jazz. You can also sit outside around the fire pits. A favorite destination of our friends for a casual evening.

“YUM!”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

GREAT VIEWS!
Breakfast was delicious. Best Eggs Benedict I have ever had.
My husband ate every morel of his breakfast too. We had a few service issues but nothing to complain about. All were quickly rectified with a smile. A little expensive but that is to be expected at a resort of this caliber.

“like corporate frozen food”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

If you want eat food like at Olive Garden but pay three times more then this is the place for you. The food quality is not what you'd expect at a resort - not terrible just bland like corporate frozen food. The perception of something better is attempted with stylish presentation but it can't hide the lack quality ingredients or cooking talent. The bread was awful though - kind of a soda bread half full of holes, cold, and old. They used to have slow delivery problems - that's gone but I think what they did is go with mass produced food. The view on the patio can be nice so it would be tolerable if dinner for two didn't cost a minimum with tax and tip of $135 - without drinks. Plus there's a 10 dollar parking fee unless you want to walk a ways and can find a spot. The amazing thing is that they are packed. I guess partly the tourists who are trapped at a slightly remote spot and partly the locals on the hill who have few choices and want to show off their cars in the valet parking line. One other thing - the patio is cold most of the year with marine layers and ocean wind. They have propane heat lamps but they are not eager to light them all up. I saw some people trying to light their own.

“Need customer service training”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

The food was fine, the location is wonderful; however the staff (especially the hostess) could really use some customer training. I expected service to match
the setting. Instead abrupt at the front station, slow service throughout the meal and just lack of attention. In looking around, it was about the same throughout the dining room. Maybe it was just a bad day.
