How anyone can give this magical resort anything less than an oustanding rating is beyond my grasp! We just returned from a four day stay in a one bedroom suite....the view was spectacular...we never left the resort..we ate at each of their venues...walked the hiking trails..used the adult pool and the spa pool...ALL OUTSTANDING! The spa is one of the best facilities we have ever visited..Service by ALL hotel personnel..from front desk., concierge, telephone operators, restaurant waitstaff, spa staff...THE BEST~

Kudos to the GM for overseeing such an outstandingly beautiful property that is run by a staff that is par excellence! We so very look forward to our return! Thank you everyone at Tarrenea Resort!

As a couple that really enjoys high-end resorts and spas we were excited to give Terranea a try. Although none of our friends had even heard of it we figured it was a well-kept secret. Unfortunately we left wishing it had remained a secret.
At the rate you pay for an ocean-view Casita, you would not expect that the "kids club" would be playing right outside your patio multiple times a day. We had to laugh as we were sitting on our patio trying to relax and all we can hear are kids screaming and gardener's running their gardening machines.
My boyfriend asked for a room change the first day of our stay and we were told the hotel was full.
Even room service proved stressful as our room did not include a full menu. We explained over the phone 3 times that the menu we had only included a few items, titled a Villa Menu, and the staff kept telling us No we just needed to keep looking, there had to be a full menu there. On the third day we had to walk to to main hotel and finally request someone give us a menu, and wait for them to photocopy it.
The only thing we recommend here is the spa and spa pool, it was our sanctuary during the day. We met another couple there that had just come over from the "adult pool" at the hotel and compared it to being in Vegas. They had the same complaint, this place is far from relaxing.
It was our anniversary and we left terribly disappointed although we now joke about the kids club every chance we get. We went to relax and be pampered and stare at the ocean...instead we got to stare at about 30 kids with balls and frisbees running around.

Stayed in a 4 bedroom villa, complete with hottub, sundeck, and courtyard with fireplace. My family and I traveled here for a wedding in the area. We booked this on expedia for 700 dollars a night, 8 adults and 3 children stayed comfortably in this unit. We cooked everyday. Sat by the fireplace nightly, hiked the resort, went to the pools, golfed daily. We only ate out 3 times, once at Marsels, Nelsons and Catalina kitchen. This hotel is a great option if traveling with family. We had a lot of activities planned outside the resort, but no one wanted to leave once we checked in! The spa was wonderful. IT is a great hotel, with many amenities, and we never ran out of things to do.

The service seemed to be lacking, especially in the restaurants. They probably need to hire more help. The main restaurant was not open, and the smaller restaurants were uninspired. For a new resort, it had the feel of not being kept up. The spa was very nice.

Prior to leaving for our trip to Terranea with my wife for her 40th birthday we read all the reviews and became a liittle leary of going after reading some of the negative reviews regarding the food, pools, and quietness.
Well thank goodness we did not listen to any of those and cancel our trip, the 2 nights and 3 days we spent there were amazing. I think the people that complained about the property being too big must be lazy, out of shape people, who do not enjoy the outdoors. Get out and walk a little bit someday, its good for you! The option of lounging at the adult pool or the large resort pool is a great option, as this trip for us was kid free. We would bring our kids here in a heartbeat next time. As for the food, they have everything from casual to fine dining. MAR'SELs was AMAZING, the food and service was incredible!! The rooms were so quiet, we slept so good! As for the people who complained about the pool noise maybe you should request a room away from the pool prior to booking! And the music at the adult pool was great with an excellent variety. If you are not "hip" enough to handle the music then do not go down to that the pool.
We often frequent Four Season Hotels, Montage, and The Ritz and this hotel stands up to those by far, it puts the The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel to shame.
Have fun.
