“Wonderful landscape. Great location. Amazing service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

We fell in love with Terranea and recommend this resort to everyone. The rooms are VERY comfortable and the service is amazing. We stayed in a villa and a spa bungalow. Both are good options, but our favorite is the villa. The concierge team is the best. Go nowhere else !

Room Tip: Villa 14201 is our favorite

My wife and I stayed at Terranea last night to celebrate her birthday. We booked an ocean view room and upon checking in were very pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a ocean view bungalow at no additional charge. The bungalow was stunning - a full kitchen, living room and two bathrooms. Very tastefully decorated, it also had a fireplace and a patio with a firepit. It was absolutely perfect.
The grounds at Terranea are incredible. Because it's perched on a hillside, just about every spot you are in has a view of the ocean! It happened to be a warm, gorgeous weekend which made the view even better. You actually forget that you are in the middle of Los Angeles. The staff is top-notch. Every single person, from the staff at Sea Beans to the front desk to housekeeping was beyond friendly and very eager to please. They made our stay very relaxing and fun.
We had dinner at the Catalina Kitchen which was delicious. Our server named Jessica was awesome and friendly. We got breakfast from Sea Beans which is the small cafe on the property. We had lunch at the pool which was from the Grill, I believe. Everything was delicious. The pool staff was awesome - super attentive and very friendly. We hung out at the main pool for a few hours. There were plenty of chairs and towels. The main pool has a stunning view of the ocean as well.
Terranea is not cheap but it is well worth it if you are traveling through Southern California or if you live in LA and need to get away for the weekend.

Room Tip: The bungalows are amazing.

The location is beautiful, but they need to improve on some of the key details. We stayed in Casita 27 near the north end of the resort. On the second night of our stay, the resort hosted a corporate event on one of the lawns near that end of the resort. They allowed the event's DJ to *blast* bad techno music until 12:30 a.m. No kidding, the walls were rattling. When we called, the front desk acted like they had no idea there was an event happening at that time. I wouldn't except that from a Motel 6, let alone a luxury resort.

The wireless internet doesn't work...it keeps kicking you off every few minutes. They weren't able to fix the problem. Our TV didn't work when we arrived either. They had to come out and reset the cable box.

Other than that, Terranea more or less met expectations.

If you are going to Southern Ca the only place to stay is the new resort of the grounds of the Marineland site. Ocean views and coast line will take your breath away. The service is first class and everyone on site had the "can do" "what can I do" attitude. I was there 4 days and never experienced anything but over the top service from housekeeping, to front desk, to grounds. Several weddings were going on while I was there and watching them make every detail into perfection was as much fun as relaxing in the spa. I will go back!

Room Tip: All great rooms

We stayed in the bungalows for 3 nights with our 4 adult children. We loved being able to use the spa pool area (no kids under 18) and relax cliffside with the great spa cafe food and drinks. The views are so beautiful and therapeutic! It seems like almost every room in the hotel would have a good or great view! The restaurants are pricy but what ocean view restaurant isn't? Great paths around the whole property for walking/views/exercising. We will return!

Room Tip: upper floors of course are preferable

My boyfriend surprised me for my 30th birthday and took me here for a romance weekend getaway. Since we're from the LA area, it only took about 25 minutes to get to the Terranea, but wow do you feel like you're in a different world. From the minute you arrive, the employees go out of their way to make you feel special. My boyfriend had originally booked a standard resort view room, but when we checked-in, the front desk associate upgraded us to one of their casita bungalow suites. The suite was spacious and nicely decorated. It consisted of a living room, full kitchen, master suite and outdoor patio and had an awesome view of the ocean. The bungalows are located a little further from the resort's main lobby, pool and restaurant, but it didn't bother us because we loved walking around the property. If you don't like to walk, you can call the front desk and they will have someone come pick you up in a golf cart. The resort is great for family with kids, we saw a lot of them at the main pool area but they also have an adult only pool and spa area (in case you want to get away from the lil' ones). The BEST thing about the resort are the breath taking views of the ocean. We took numerous walks on the property and down to the private beach during our stay. It was such a romantic and relaxing weekend. Can't wait to go back.

FOOD: The seafood buffet at Catalina Kitchen was good and worth the money ($55/person), but I wasn't a huge fan of their dessert selection. The pina colada at the pool are amazing. I had two everyday!

Quiet, peaceful location. Feels more like northern CA than LA. Guest rooms were very clean and comfortable. The property is lush and well maintained. And the onsite and local restaurants were all fantastic.

My only recommendation to management is to replace the smelly carpet in the elevator...

Hope to return soon!
