“Great Value in Off Season - easy to upgrade at check-in. Nice views.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2010

Rooms: Updated in 2008, the room was nicely appointed - 2 "Heavenly Beds", very large writing desk with two sitting chairs, mini-bar + fridge + outdoor deck. Flat panel TV, alarm clock etc. Probably originally built in the 70s - so rooms on the second floor are quieter (no feet on your ceiling) and have a higher ceilings. Bathrooms are redone - a little cramped with double sink, dressing area/closet and separate toilette + bath/shower area - but good water pressure from double shower heads. Room size probably 600 sq. ft including outside patio. Not a 5 star hotel, but for Rancho Mirage amoung the best options... 4 Stars.

Check-in: Low season before X-mass => so plenty of rooms to choose from. I suggest 2nd floor facing golf course or mountain view. Check in guy let us come around the desk to get views from each room on his monitor - great idea! Book the lowest cost room if off season and you'll get upgraded at check in.

Restaurants: Only tried breakfast - bagel, lox, cream cheese - but very good service and food. Reasonable prices for hotel.

Grounds: Stunning views of mountains - great trails for walking around the golf courses - you could get lost - leave bread crumbs. Good pool area - self serve towels + cabanas you can rent in addition to chairs around free-form pool. 2nd pool away form main area as well. Tennis Courts, Spa, Gym. $27 Mandatory "Resort Fee". They should just include it in the room rate and stop messing around - very unprofessional.

Parking: Okay in off season, however, would be cramped during high season. Valet option was only $7!

Check-out. TV Checkout - had to correct double charge of $27 resort fee that had been pre-paid. Annoying - check your bill carefully.

This was very disappointing for a leading Westin Hotel. Although the rooms appeared clean we found some bugs in the room. The maid failed to replace the washroom facilities, i.e. shampoo, shower gel etc. We went out and bought stuff at the local pharmacy. Reception was busy and as such everything seemed too much trouble. Not impressed with ducks walking through the breakfast (eating areas) or for that matter getting into the swimming pool. I was ignored on two different occasions in the bar and the service was poor. The hotel itself is set in wonderful grounds with great views but there appear to be insufficient staff to deal with busy periods and this is often reflected in the lack of service and attitude. The food in the restaurent was average and a requested medium rare steak returned as very well done! This is my second bad experience with a Westin Hotel in the last 6 months. I will be looking towards different hotels in the future.

Love the location being in a posh area of Rancho Mirage. The entrance is attractive and impressive. The public areas are nice and high quality but lack the omnipresent friendliness that is found in perfectly run resorts. I have no complaints with the bedrooms. Nice big screen tv and good furnishings. Art is non'descript but not bad. The beds, pillows and sheets were of the highest quality. Our bathroom was average--not spectacular but nothing special.

What lacked was the service. The cleaning staff didn't arrive and so we called to have the room made up but by that time we were in the room and it wasn't possible to clean much.

Pete Dye course is good but not great. The layout is spectacular and well thought out but the maintenance is average to poor. Trust me, the maintenance of the fairways and greens will make you feel that you are playing on an average public golf course and no better. That's not Mr. Dye's fault. I would probably try another hotel.

We had just left the Westin resort in Scottsdale Arizona and I was so excited about arriving at this one. I was very disappointed. We always stay at a Westin when traveling if available and know what to expect but sadly didn't get that here. The rooms were spacious and clean but there were a couple of bugs in the bathroom. The resort is rather large and there were 3 pools. All pools were suppose to be heated but the pool we were near wasn't and we had to walk clear to the other end of the resort to use the pool. The first day full day we were there the main pool was closed for a function. I was disappointed we weren't put near the pool that was heated. The pools weren't clean. House keeping wasn't friendly the first day or two we were there but as we seen more house cleaning staff some became friendly. At check in the lady wasn't very friendly but her co-worker standing beside her made up for it because she was nice and friendly talking to us about our dog. The exterior needs to be updated and the complaints about rooms not being sound proof enough are true. The workout room was very nice but again had to go clear to the other end of the resort to use it. The resort is large enough they should have amentities at both ends. We made the best of it but if back in the area would likely not stay there again and stay at the le meridien. As gold members we were not offered an upgrade or put in the best position of the resort which was very frustrating and is the reason we didn't spend a dime at the resort other then for the rooms. The location is nice and close to a casino and places to eat and shop.

Stayed at the westin for an evening while the hotel computers were crashing. The supervisor took care of the situation which is what I come to expect from this type of hotel. The rooms are a bit dated compared to other hotels in this price range. Will have to think about paying top dollar to stay there again but the service is an A+!

We came to Palm Springs not really knowing what we were coming to or what we would find however, we had a great time and wished we could have stayed longer. The Westin Mission Hills looked beautiful as we drove in - it was all decked out for Thanksgiving/Christmas and the resort was beautiful. There were fountains and pools everywhere. The grass was green, there were flowers and ducks and other small birds. It was sunny and we could see the mountains from the resort. We had breakfast outside on a patio overlooking some nice parts of the hotel.
The really good points - the a/c in the room was virtually silent (and so was everyone else's, making for a quieter night's sleep), the cold buffet breakfast was complimentary, we were given a free spa treatment by the guy running the local radio station (not sure if he is there all the time). The staff were all helpful.
We were surprised by the size of Palm Springs and everything took much longer to get to than expected. However we briefly went to the Indian Canyon and we went out to eat at Cafe Des Beaux-Arts which was again picturesque and very yummy!
The only negative thing about the hotel was the coffee at breakfast which wasn't very nice compared with the coffee in the room! Oh, and internet access had to be paid for. These were very small things compared with the overall experience. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would like to be able to return for a couple more days!
Top tips - the breakfast is only buffet at the weekend - it's a la carte the rest of the week.
