Dhat Island is a welcome refuge from the boring, bland, and often barely edible tourist fare that passes for food in The Valley. The meals are full of interesting flavors that keep you returning to your plate even after you think you've had enough. The staff is pleasant and helpful, the menu is varied and reasonably priced. The only suggestion I have is that you take yourself over to Dhat Island for a delicious Caribbean meal. You will go back.

We were very excited to find Dhat Island in the Coachella Valley after having enjoyed several meals at the Redlands location. The new restaurant still needs work, but we are hopeful it will rise to the level we love at the original Dhat Island. The big, cavernous restaurant does not have an island ambience , so that was our first disappointment. Although friendly and eager to please, the staff is not yet well-trained. Our server did not know how to adequately describe the wine selections. We ordered a salad to share, but the waiter only brought one plate instead of two. I ordered my eggplant dish without rice, but it came with the rice anyway. While these are not major mistakes, they add up and show that the owners need to put more emphasis on training and professional service. The Coachella Valley has a sophisticated population that expects good table service. The food was as good as expected and the prices remain reasonable, so we will return. Hopefully, the owners will give the place a more 'island feel' and the servers more training to create a better all around experience in the new location.

Still a work in progress (the décor needs a lot of attention/the room is cavernous) but the food is different, unique and delicious. Had the goat (first time for that) and I loved it. Great seasoning, flavor and a large portion (enough for 2 meals). The staff is very friendly and professional. Extra treat was the spicy ginger beer that went well with my dinner. The beignet dessert was one of the best I've ever had. Can't wait to try the assorted appetizers and their new take on collared greens. As soon as they get some appropriate posters and music (and let the public know they are open), Dhat Island should be a success in the desert. Check it out.

Our son recommended the new restaurant. He just visited their store in Riverside and was impressed. We visited it before Christmas and heard that it just had this “soft” opening. So, the grand opening is coming sometime next year? It located at the corner of Frank Sinatra and Highway 111, next to Kobe and a new Car Wash station.
Restaurant’s setting was really nice with lovely decoration. Service was cordial, warm and prompt. We ordered Mich Fondue Creole (an interesting appetizer; $8.95), Oxtail Bullion (meat was well cooked, very soft and juicy; $16.95), Seafood Gumbo (my favorite: very tasty, on a par with New Orleans’; $15.95) and completed with Beignets-half order (very good, it came with sweet sauce, but I prefer “sugar powder”; $5.95). We enjoyed the dinner and wished back soon.
