From 03.17.2013 through 03.21.2013, my husband and I visited the Coachella Valley. We stayed at the Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage, CA. The resort was beautiful and certainly had that desert feel and theme going. We stayed in a one-bedroom villa which was exactly like a small condo or apartment home and was very comfortable and convenient. We had all the comforts of home, i.e., washer/dryer, stove, microwave, frig and dishwasher. We also had a 2-floor private balcony that we could enter from either the living room or bedroom. The grounds were immaculate and desert-like as well as tropical with beautiful flowers along with the sand. The property had several bridges with water along with mallard ducks that we fed (probably fed them too much) and Canadian geese which were aggressive toward the ducks because they were in the breeding season and they felt the ducks would invade their nests; hence, we did not continue to attempt to feed the geese, as they were only interested in chasing the ducks away. Also, our first attraction was (after attending Church services the morning of our arrival), was the Living Desert and Botanical Gardens in Palm Desert, CA. This place was huge and even had a San Andreas Fault exhibition sight, though there was no exhibition there that day, we were actually on a piece of the Fault. The Living Desert had numberous animals including three big cats: a female jaguar, a leopard, and mountain lion. There were servals there as well and there were several shows that exhibited the serval and his behavior, i.e., great jumpting skiils and the raptor/birds of prey as well as a beautiful parrot, porcupine, opposum and three mice. They also had the biggest display of model trains my husband and I had ever seen - twice as big as the display at the Museum of Science and Industry. The train themes were great as well - too numerous to mention. There were hiking trails near the mountains and beautiful aviary, cacti, palm walk-thru gardens, camel rides and a Madagascar Village-themed area. Simply beautiful. Also, we visited Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms, CA and basically just did the hour drive thru the park. We exited the car a few times to peruse the different rock structure and for a restroom stop, but that was it. This is a very interesting park - not the Grand Canyon, but unique in its own way and worth the 15.00 vehicle entrance fee. We also went to the Aerial Tramway park in Palm Springs, but did not ride the tram. The height and the line the tram travelled on, was a little too unnerving for us. We also visited stores in Indian Wells, Cathedral City and La Quinta as well as went to a few luxury open houses - very beautiful. This was a vacation for beauty, healing and rest. The Coachella Valley did not disappoint and we are now equating it with Las Vegas as one of our retirement hopefuls. We have some photos of the Palm Springs Airport with the mountains in the background, JPL Church and some members and the Pastor, golf-course homes, our villa's balcony and grounds, pecarries at the Living Desert (photos of the big cats did not materialize), and our digital camera's battery was down and my throw away camera was already at Walgreens Rancho Mirage, before we could film the aerial trams in Palm Springs. But please peruse the attached photos. We highly recommend the beautiful Coachella Valley, particularly the cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, Indian Wells and Palm Desert. Sonja L. Marshall

Stayed five days (four nights) and had a wonderful experience. Villa was very comfortable with all the amenities one would expect--expansive bathroom, kitchen, comfortable living/sitting area and nice patio. Did not expect maid service to clean the room during our stay but one was provided.
The staff was exceptional!! Each individual we came in contact with couldn't be nicer or more professional--registration, waiters, bartenders, gift shop sales staff, pool attendants--they all seemed to care about our comfort.
While we stayed in the villas, we took advantage of the amenities at the hotel next door...a three minute stroll along the side of the golf course. Again, each employee was superior.
The grounds are very well kept and there are activities for kids all day long.
Can't think of a better place to relax and feel like you're being pampered.

Beautiful golf course, small pools with lots of chairs jammed next to each other, nice villas that were clean, but could use a few updates. I'm glad we stayed, however we probably won't be back. While all the staff were pleasant, none were especially helpful...the one exception was our server at Pinzimini.

Room Tip: Parking can be a bit of a haul from some of the rooms.

It was handy to have a washing machine and kitchen. It was clean and nothing to really complain about for the price we had paid. We were there on a special which entailed a visit to the vacation rental sales centre.

If you hit the right time of year, the Cabazon outlet has great items for exceptional prices. We went just after black friday in early December.

This was first time stay at Westin Mission Hills Villas. Slow check in and our room wasn't ready. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. We liked having a balcony. Not sure we loved the layout...we were travelling with our daughter and weren't able to get a room close together so we were in separate buildings which wasn't very convenient. The fridge was noisy. Wonderful king bed, beautiful grounds and setting though. Would we return?...maybe, maybe not.

Room Tip: Enjoyed having a balcony.

This was our first time staying at the Westin Mission Hills Villas. Things didn't seem quite as organized as any of the other SPG properties we've visited. Our check - in was delayed by an hour, and the villa was in need of updating. In fact, I believe the area we were in is in the process of being renovated.
One really unfortunate experience was not receiving our 3:30 a.m. wake up call the morning we left for the airport. Luckily we happened to wake up on our own and made it in time for our flight.
On a very positive note, we enjoyed the Seasons restaurant onsite several times. The food was excellent, and we would especially like to mention our server, Ricardo Perez. He was an absolute joy, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
