“Not what I expected”
Reviewed February 2, 2012

Not knowing where to get good Italian food in the desert area, we took the recommendation of a local real estate agent to try Alberto's in Rancho Mirage. We were one of 2 tables that were taken that evening, and, believe it or not, the service was inadequate. With only 2 tables in operation, I don't think I should have to flag down a waiter to get my water glass refilled. Food was on the bland side, and atmosphere was rather dreary. We went this one time, and with the experience we had, it will not be a restaurant that we will return.

“Great Italian Feast in Rancho Mirage”
Reviewed January 18, 2012

We had excellent service, good house wine with a large pour, and the food was excellent. Have recommended to other snowbirds, who will try it, but a happy hour tasting menu might be a good idea! We will be back soon!

“Candidate for "Restaurant Impossible"”
Reviewed December 4, 2011

Disappointed to find Eisenhower-era decor, plus phony Italian wall art. Asked Maitre 'd if "he was Alberto?" "He lives in L.A., and his son runs this, but he's out-of-town." So much for "hands-on" management!" Waiter brought menus, complete with outrageous prices for "regular-sounding" Italian food (i.e.Caesar Salad for 2: $18). Waiter asked if we wanted "red" or "white" wine, without offering a list, or mentioning "brands." My spouse chose a thin, uninteresting Pinot Noir ($8). If we had orderd our "normal" Italian meal (sharing a salad, and 2 entrees) we would have spent around $100 bucks, so we had a "Tomato and Mozzerella Salad," plus appetizer portions of "scampi" and "melon and prosciutto." When I asked the waiter about the salad,"A Caprese with Basil?" He answered "Sure!" What we got were 2 tomato slices, 2 hunks of Mozzerella, and No Basil. Nice though, as were our appetizers. However $54 for this was a bit much. Don't tell people that Sinata and his buddies, and Hollywood stars used to eat here. They're dead, as is this ristorante!

“Amazing Italian and this is where the old timer's go...”
Reviewed May 5, 2009

This is the place where all the old timer's in Palm Springs/Desert go. This was a hang out for all the old stars/singers. Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack were regulars.

The decor is old school italian, high end. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that turn you off.

The Ceasar salads are made at the table. The Fetticini is out of this world.

And you must try the Cappachino Ice Cream, its out of this world.

You will not be disappointed!!!

“Bellissimo!”
Reviewed January 20, 2008

Four of us choose Alberto's for the first time after noticing the always crowded parking lot and craving a "new" (for us) Italian place. What a wonderful surprise! An intimate wood-paneled dining room, brass lighting fixtures and soft prints of the Italian countryside make for a lovely setting. Many guests seemed to be regulars and it made for a festive atmosphere. The valet who parked the car, the Hostess, to the very professional waitstaff made for a welcoming experience. And the food...superb! The salad with red pepper, tomato and anchovy was terrific as a starter-cold, refreshing and very tasty. The homemade pasta recommended by the waiter, especially the ravioli, gnocchi and canneloni and the sauces-many choices (pesto, marinara, meat) were deeply layered flavors that you never got tired of eating. Veal (vitello) is served many ways and the Milanese we ordered was a HUGE chop, pounded flat, and crisply sauteed. Perfect! We shared tiramisu, not my favorite dessert, but this was also delicious. Sufficient wine list, with a few American but mainly Italian wines. With a bottle of wine the bill came to $187 before tip-well worth this perfect experience. We will return! (not open for lunch).
