“Delicious Food and Excellent Service”
Reviewed December 24, 2013

We had a very good dinner and – just as importantly – a very nice overall dining experience at Roy’s last night. It is so nice to see a positive attitude in a restaurant these days and we had that in abundance, from the friendly greeting by the hostess, to the accommodating person who showed us to our table and let us change it because of a draft coming from the front door on a chilly evening, and our extremely attentive waitress. In fact everyone was full of cheer and you know it’s not just because it’s Christmas week.

My wife and I began by splitting two appetizers – lobster potstickers and spicy Szechuan beans, the latter dish with a surprise of small slices of Andouille sausage mixed in. We then both had a new dish created for the restaurant’s 25th anniversary, spicy lobster tails. The generous portion of three succulent tails each was fresh, perfectly cooked and served in a broth with small pork-filled dumplings, mushrooms and carrots. The house wine went very nicely with our meal. For dessert we shared a macademia nut tart with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream, a nice sweet finish to the delightful meal that was not too heavy.

What a pleasant evening we had!

“Go to Costco First”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

Once again visiting family members wanted to eat at the mediocre, over-priced Roy's in Rancho Mirage. This time we were seated in a side room, where it took one hour and 20 minutes for our entrees to be served. I had the Thai chicken, which was OK, my wife had shrimp, and other family members the butterfish and ahi tune which they liked. Now, why go to Costco first? That's because the local Costcos in La Quinta and off of Monterey near the I-10 sell $100 worth of
dining cards for $80!

“Great place (yet noisy)”
Reviewed December 17, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

I really liked the place but you should be aware that it is quite busy, buzzy and noisy... Also, front cooking and watching the chefs is not everybody's cup of tea.

So if you want a calm dinner in a quiet setting do NOT go there.

Apart from that is ticks all the boxes: great (sea)food, attentive service and very nice ambience.

“Aloha hour a must go”
Reviewed December 10, 2013 via mobile

Have been twice now this week. Aloha hour starts at 4:30 for two hours. Includes menu and drinks for six dollars. You can get enough to eat for 12 bucks. Great service and the solders are fantastic. The other options on aloha hour menu are equally great. Did not like the smoked mahi mahi tacos but others in party loved them. Worth your time to fit in for early dinner. Other menu is much higher but very good and worth a visit also.

“Not as Good as Ever”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

I have to preface this review by telling the reader that there were 13 of us. Usually its just me and my husband. The food was good, and served with an inventive flair, but the service was off. I never figured out who our chief server was. The butter fish wasn't butter fish, but cod-not as delicious. The next time, my husband and I will come by ourselves. One plus that I will mention is that they made room for us at 6, when they really only could take reservations at 5:30 or 8:30.
