“Beware of noisy ACs!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

Imagine there's a tractor parked in your room and it starts the engine every 20 minutes. That's how the AC in my room sounded like. After the first sleepless night I asked the very accommodating staff to change rooms. The manager admitted that most of their ACs are noisy. Still, the one in the new room was more bearable. Apart from that, it's an OK hotel. I'm certain there are better choices around. If you do stay there – avoid room 111

Just your basic hotel. Clean and comfortable. Beds are great. Bathrooms need a ventilation system. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. Breakfast is not included in the rate. Parking can be tough at times as well.

We stayed in Palm Springs for business and the Garden Inn seemed to be in a convenient location. Check in was smooth enough and we were given a room on the first floor. First impressions were that the hotel was dated but fine for a business trip. The walls and curtains were pretty ugly and the shower curtain in the bathroom was old and worn. Right away I noticed that our towels seemed to be different colors. A few of them were light blue as if they'd been tossed in with jeans. Not a huge deal, just not super classy. And, I prefer my towels to be bleached.
I went over to open the window and noticed smears of purple jelly?, juice?, candy? all over the sheer curtain. Pretty gross. It wasn't a problem keeping the thicker curtains drawn, however, as an opened window reveals a view of a tall brown wall. You can catch a patch of sky at the top, but not enough to let any light in. Pretty disappointing coming from dreary Portland.
I must say that the bed was comfortable and the staff friendly, but not overly helpful. (A request for a forgotten hair brush was treated with a shrug and a suggestion that we go buy one. No complimentary comb?)
The pool area was clean one day and dirty the next. Chairs weren't very comfortable, but the pool was nice enough.
Overall, it was just mediocre. Thankfully we didn't have high expectations as they were certainly not exceeded.

We were attending a softball tournament in Cathedral City and found this to be a great location near food, recreation and only a ten minute drive to the tournament site. The staff was very friendly and seemed to know the area reasonably well giving walking directions to nearby restaurants, parks for exercise and a shopping area is within walking distance. Our room was clean and the entire hotel seemed well maintained, our only warning about rooms is that 271 is near an exhaust pipe of some type and can be heard in the room if you have good hearing. Plenty of free parking.

We had reservations from Monday to Thursday in another hotel but arrived in the Palm Springs area late on a Friday afternoon in February without any reservation for the weekend. The desk clerk at the Garden Inn had only one room left and only for Friday night. We grabbed that and were able to stay Saturday night too when someone else cancelled. After a very pleasant weekend we headed off to the (considerably more expensive) hotel we had reserved for the following week. When we arrived there our room was not ready so we looked around and had lunch in the hotel restaurant while we waited. I was thinking I really liked the Garden Inn better than this, and then my wife said "you know, I don't like this as well as the Garden Inn." The front desk was very gracious and let us out of our reservation, and we headed back to the Garden Inn for the rest of of the week. We loved it!
All the staff at the Garden Inn were very helpful. The breakfasts were up to the high Garden Inn standard with friendly table service. In addition to families there were always several people in business suits who might have been local business people. The lobby/breakfast room was beautiful with bright sunshine in the morning and very tastefully decorated. While it was quiet in the evening, there was full dinner service available.
Like everything else in this hotel, the pool area was well-maintained and rather quiet. Highway 111 is a very busy thoroughfare, but the hotel is set back and a little below the road level with attractive plantings to shield even the rooms that faced the street. The room we had after the weekend faced the lobby/breakfast room across a garden area which was a nice view.
The neighborhood was perfect for a quiet extended stay. It was a short walk to a lovely center with a large ornamental pool complete with fountains and ducks and bordered by shops and restaurants and even a movie theatre. One evening we walked across the Highway to a restaurant that is reputed to be one of the very best in the Palm Springs area (I should have worn a jacket and tie instead of my sweater, but they do have a more relaxed wing.)
The only part of our time that was not top-notch was a rather noisy through-the-wall air conditioner in the room we had on the weekend. Fortunately the February nights are cool, so it did not run all the time.
Now we are back in the cold and snowy Northeast, but we are seeing if we can arrange our next winter vacation to get back to the Palm Springs area and stay in the Rancho Mirage Hilton Garden Inn.

Room Tip: check the A/C noise in the room

There is no designated concierge, so this should fall to the front desk employees.
They seem baffled by the simplest of questions but were otherwise pleasant.
Got all my info from locals in town.
Very comfortable room and quite quiet.
The pool area was nice but the whirlpool didn't work and couldn't find the turn on switch.
Very quiet on second floor, did notice a guard in back, could see how someone would slip
In as you can use key card in that area.
Met someone who was staying there for months, as there is a fridge and micro in room.
They should include breakfast for gold and diamond members as there is no exec lounge.
A great area, right on 111 and across from the River outdoor mall which has lots of restaurant
Choices and a nice view. City bus is right outside and is 1.00

Room Tip: Second floor is safer and quieter

For the price this hotel is just right for a long weekend trip to the area. After reading previous reviews I was a bit concerned but all for nothing. The hotel is just fine considering the age of the area. We did a lot and we found the location perfect for our various adventures and dining plans. We also appreciated having quick access to breakfast to the in house restaurant. Prices were reasonable, service good and food selection just right. We booked a king suite and it was spacious, clean and quiet. Ask for a room on the second (top) floor. We would stay here again.
