“Below Average Hilton Garden Inn”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

We are Hilton Honor Members so we are familiar with the Hilton chain. We stayed one night in Rancho Mirage on our way to Arizona. The first thing I noticed upon check in was no complimentary coffee available in the lobby, as most Hilton Garden Inns offer. The room size was fine, lighting in the bathroom was good. The biggest complaint we had was the air conditioning unit. The thermostat read the room temp was in the 80's which left the unit running constantly. We then had to shut it off manually, due to near freezing temperature. When it got stuffy, we had to turn it back on. This went on all night. We had a 2nd night booked on returning home but cancelled and booked the Hampton Inn Rancho Mirage. We were very satisfied there!

Room Tip: Don't accept room 259 unless the air conditioning unit has been replaced since December 2012.

The hotel sits next to Highway 111, so there is some road traffic 24/7. However, the location is also near a shopping center and across the street from a great bar/restaurant with piano, Wally's.
For $104 a night, you get a clean room, with microwave, good shower, and small refrigerator. We parked our car and there were ample spaces. Breakfast is included, but for an order of eggs/bacon you may wait a half hour. Several guests experienced this same delay. Also, when ordering no one asks you for a name so a waiter wonders around trying to guess who ordered what. Chaos. Most annoying was the high pitched hum of the refrigerator paired with the traffic noise and made unbearable by the air conditioner motor which shut off and on constantly. If you want to get this bargain, bring ear plugs.

Room Tip: You can ask for a second floor room in back of hotel. We booked our room with this request. How...

We value our location- walking distance to the "River" with ample shopping & entertainment! Management will ask maintenance to take a look at the refrigerator unit in your guest room, we apologize for your experience. We will also speak with our F&B manager immediately to ensure that breakfast to order runs smoothly going forward. Thank you for your comments, we appreciate the chance to correct any issues.

I had to attend a conference in Rancho MIrage at the Los Palmas Resort but wanted to keep the cost of the trip down. The Hilton Garden Inn is very close to the Los Palmas Resort and is considerably less costly. The Garden Inn is pretty standard and I do recommend it. However you should know that there is no airport shuttle so cab fare is around $30.00 each way. The hotel is sort of understaffed but gets the job done. They have a very nice pool, but the fitness center is limited to about 3 people at a time, just one treadmill.

The Holiday Inn Express is even closer to the Los Palmas Resort.

We asked for a second floor room, facing away from Hiway 111 and were given a nice room away from any street noise. The front entry of the hotel was closed due to renovations of the lobby area, so had to bypass some discarded lumber and such to get in. Staff was very accomodating, beds very comfortable. Downsides are the very loud cooling system that kicks on and you can't hear the tv and noise coming from neighboring room Perhaps that was due to some very rowdy and inebriated guys, but their voices just permeated our room late at night. Hopefully, the needed refurbishing will help with a new a/c, but need to check on those paper-thin walls. Breakfast is extra, but very nice- fresh fruit, eggs how you like, pancakes, waffles, pastry, juice, and so one. Goodlocation between Palm Springs and Palm Desert.

We stayed in a suite with two queens which was fairly roomy although not overly large. Hotel staff was very helpful. Nice pool with convenient spa. Good workout center. The location of the hotel is very close to the Ranch Mirage River Shopping/dining center which gave a number of very nice and convenient options for dining.

I was attending a conference at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort, but needed more economical lodging, so I booked a room at the Hilton Garden Inn. The location is very good - walking distance to Rancho Las Palmas and The River shopping center. I booked a room with a single king size bed and it was a nice size room with the sitting area slightly separated from the sleeping area. The room had a good array of useful things like a blow dryer and iron/ironing board. I also liked the Bath and Bodyworks products. The bed pillows, however, were unusually square, boxy and hard. The bed itself was fine and the room's heating/cooling system worked great. My biggest disappointment was with the breakfast. It's buffet style for $11.95 and they'll cook omelettes and such to order. But I've been to comparably priced hotels where breakfast was included. Still this is a good option for a short stay.

Stayed here over the weekend and the location is great in Rancho Mirage. It's right next to an outdoor mall with lots of food places to eat, shopping and a movie theater. We got to the hotel and we were welcomed at the front desk and onto our room in a minute. We had a suite and it was a great size. But the bathroom needed a makeover with wallpaper and everything else just looked cheap. The room was large and had potential, but it was not used. The beds were not that confortable and below my par compared to other Hilton Garden Inn's. I would stay here again if there was a makeover, otherwise I would stay at another SPG hotels in the desert.
