“For a Westin resort the course was average...”
Reviewed January 30, 2012

The course was average - needed a little more TLC to be in line with the reputation of a Westin resort...

“More enjoyable than the other Westin course...”
Reviewed January 9, 2012

Prior research on the course showed spotty reviews, but I decide to take a flyer after spotting a $89 special for free same day replays on their website. The plan was to booked a 7.30am tee off time followed by another 18 hole at the Peter Dye course in the afternoon (in hindsight play the PD before the GP if you get a choice). Played this course at 1pm and just barely managed to finish 18 before dusk.

Greens - 4.5/5 (fast and true but tricky as heck to read correctly. Pay lots of attention to the grain as it significantly impacts the break! FUN!)

Difficulty - 4.5/5 (Tough from the back tees. Requiring much length and precision from where the pros hit. Undulating fairway lies and well placed bunkers guard the fairway. Not too much wind affects play. Need for local knowledge is critical as a well struck approach next to the pin can still trickle off the green very easily if the green keeper is not feeling generous). These greens are what you see on the PGA tour and it definitely gives you appreciation for how tour players still manage to shoot under par.)

Service - 5/5. (The same level of Top notch service I would expect from a Westin property. The starter, William, even led me to the first tee box which is located quite a trek from thenPro shop. My only quibble is that the pro shop is about a 5 min walk from the parking and you have to call a free golf shuttle for pickup)

Design - 4/5. (I have always been a fan of Peter Dye courses as they are as mean and tough as they get. Even from the whites, they are not the easiest for the average golfer. Case in point the 3 twenty something's ahead of me that were spraying it left right and centre all afternoon. Seriously guys... Play off the whites. It makes for a much enjoyable a day for not only you but the rest of us following you around all day. And by the way, when you see a single stuck behind you all afternoon, please have the courtesy to wave him through. End of rant. Back on point, this is a championship level course from the back tees and I will definitely be back!)

Value - 5/5 (If you can score what is essentially 36 holes for $89
.
2/5 if your paying full rack rates for 18.)

“Pete Dye Resort Course”
Reviewed December 5, 2011

Course was in great shape and well maintained. Most fairways are pretty tight. Lots of sand. Greens were very well kept and true to putt.
