We spent a week at San Diego Country Estates in February. As we had great weather, our review may be positively biased but we met many people who have been returning for years. Our criticisms are small. We had a one bedroom timeshare unit. It was very clean, spacious and nicely appointed. The bedroom had good reading lamps and two huge mirrored hanging cupboards. The kitchen had just about everything one might want, including paper towels and the pleasant surprise of a welcome packet of coffee, tea, instant oatmeal and hot chocolate! Salt and pepper as well as some sugar, was provided. I might have wanted a couple of good sized coffee mugs, in addition to the Corelle cups provided.
The large couch, fabulous TV, large dining table, comfortable bed, and ensuite washer and dryer were all assets. The selection of TV channels was excellent. We did not use the fireplace due to the warm weather but it looked appealing for cold nights. One suggestion would be to lose the numerous decorative plastic plants. Management was generous with the number of plush white towels. Daily maid service to empty trash and replace towels was appreciated.
The pool and hot tub at the club house were appealing, large and sparkling clean. The pool was heated and the hot tub appropriately hot. We spent many enjoyable hours in the poolside loungers. There were also a number of tables with umbrellas available. At night, a gas fireplace between the pool and hot tub was lit, and one could avail themselves of the comfy lounge chairs to watch the starry skies. We did not visit the pool at San Vincente Inn and the other (seasonal) pool was closed.
The grounds were attractive and well maintained and the occasional wild turkey was an interesting sight.
The gym was excellent. The 5 cardio machines were all in good working order. There were a goodly number of weight machines as well as free weights. Extra touches included a weigh scale, towels, fitness balls and mats.
The clubhouse offered amenities: a free lending library, puzzles, games, foosball, table tennis, and videos.
Many guests raved about the included golf and tennis, which we did not take advantage of.
I was confused about the no pets policy, as there were indeed some small dogs in some of the units.
