While in Quincy for an afternoon we went into this museum and were very pleasantly surprised. For a small local museum it had an amazing and diverse collection. The displays of Maidu Indian baskets was awesome, the best examples of Indian basketry we've seen. There was an exceptional section about the often over-looked early Chinese population and the important role they played in local and California history. Those alone are worth a visit, but also interesting were the railroad, mining and logging artifacts, a great collection of old glass bottles and many other historic items and old photographs. Displays were very well done, informative and creative....such as the old luggage cart piled high with vintage suitcases, valises and other old items...just like they were waiting to be loaded onto the train in the railroad display. Carol, the musuem staffer, was very friendly and informative. This is well worth the time! What a plus for the small town of Quincy to have such an outstanding museum!
