Went there with 3 other friends for our monthly gathering. We ordered banana, buck wheat and swidish pancakes. They were all good, but the bill was almost $50 without the tip and not everyone had a drink. Don't think we'll meet there that often.

I have been going to this OPH for years, usually on weekdays because I refuse to wait longer than 20 minutes for a table. Once seated, I could count on getting quick service, good coffee and excellent waffles and pancakes.

But the last couple of times, it has been disappointing. Still good coffee and quick service, but the food has gone downhill. I ordered a waffle with "fresh strawberries" last week. What I got was a waffle with sugared strawberries on top - way too sweet even without syrup - and the waffle was SOAKED with the sugary strawberry juice. I ended up lifting the waffle up off the plate to take as much of the sugary mess off as I could, eating just the not-so-soggy edges.

I did not send it back, but I did tell the waitress who did not offer to replace it or discount my meal. The cashier also asked "how was everything?" but clearly didn't want to hear of my disappointment with the food and offered no apology.

By contrast, my breakfast this week at Kono's in Pacific Beach was half the price and many times better.

This was a happening place! Breakfast was great... I had bananna nut pancakes. The bacon was fat, crisp, and apple smoked. My wife had potato latkes, which were paper thin and crisp... I tried them and they were great. She also got the corned beef hash, which came with two eggs over easy on top which were very good.

We've seen the lines outside this place every Sunday, so I guess we were expecting a really good experience. Unfortunately, the Pancake House did not deliver one on the occasion we went there.
We visited on a late lunchtime during the week. There were only a couple of other customers, but service was slow. It took a long time for our meals to arrive and the iced tea my husband ordered never did arrive - you'd have expected the server to notice he had no drink. (Eventually he asked for coffee, which did come quickly.) The food was OK, but the perfect-looking potato pancakes were a disappointment, as they turned out to be golden and crispy only on top - the under side was soggy and almost raw, and they had an unpleasantly slimy texture.
If you're looking for good diner-type food you'll be much better off at the Incredible Cafe in Rancho Bernardo, IMHO.
