Great steaks, salads, excellent cheesecake. Nice outdoor seating. Staff and owner went out of their way For us, super friendly. Good selection of beers and wine. This is where we'll be eating when we come back next year!

“The Boston Bomber is "Da Bomb"!”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat in between meetings with a friend. I've been meaning to try this restaurant especially since local folks have told me it's been taken over by new management.

The outside decor is typical for this small mountain community. (Looks road worn but don't let that turn you away). The inside wasn't much better decor wise. It reminded me of the old steak house my parents would take us to eat at when I was kid.

The service was super friendly and the cook even came out to chat with us. The place wasn't super busy but it was also in mid-afternoon.

The reason I gave this place four stars was for the food alone. As I flipped through the menu I saw a sandwich called the Boston Bomber. It should've been named the colon clogger. Lots of meat and it was spicy...which is what I'm always looking for. The sandwich came and it was delicious! The portion was huge and the price was more than fair.

Seems like a great place to stop in for lunch or a laid back meal. Probably not the place I will bring the wife on date night but nonetheless a great place to eat and relax.

“Not recommended. Not closed either (Aug. 2012) but probably will be soon. Any chain restaurant would be better.”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

A homey local restaurant has to be much better than this one of it wants to survive in this economy. It was a Tuesday night, and they were not full.
But they seemed understaffed and the cook was incompetent. All 6 of our entrees were bad. Slowwwww service. The 2 servers working 5-6 tables outside on the deck and 4 tables inside couldnt keep up. Slower kitchen. We had been there 25 min when we got the toasted buttered bread slices in the bread basket (hot, and the tastiest thing we were served) 45 minutes when we got our boring iceberg salads. A full hour before we got our entrees. Three of us had anemic pasta dishes (Olive Garden is way better) three had steaks - two ordered medium rare. All were served well-done and were tasteless. One of our party had to wait until most of us had finished for his entree, after we were told the cook "didn't see it on the ticket". (Yet his steak was overcooked when it finally arrived.) The waitress didn't remember what he had ordered, plus she brought out 5 entrees, for 6 people, so I have to think she shares some blame?
The $130 tab before tip for a disappointing meal, plus a long wait, was the low point of our lovely day after visiting Lake Tahoe. We wished we had chosen the steakhouse across the street, or eaten at the Subway right off the highway exit.

“The NEW Haven”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

We were customers at The Haven fifteen years ago. We stopped by last weekend to see how it has aged. The NEW HAVEN looks the same, although the varnish on the beautiful wood is aging and the carpet had seen better days. The outdoor arbor is still a great place to eat. The menu has not changed a lot, except for some really good upgrades: The lobster role is fantastic and made with fresh lobster, and some care. The fried clams were delightful and plentiful. The fresh cod fish and chips (in beer batter) were really full of fish, not dough. The service was great and the chef came out to chat about the menu and the food. I'm glad the NEW Haven is a lot like the old one: A great place to eat on your way to or from South Lake Tahoe on highway 50.
