I've tent camped at Ice House Resort several times, purchased necessities at their store, eaten meals in their restaurant, and had drinks in their bar (in fact, just yesterday after coming down from backpacking in the Desolation Wilderness). The owners and their kids do a fabulous job supporting adventurers that come up to the Crystal Basin. There is a great mix of travelers and locals, and I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed to stop there for a hot meal, ice and bait, a draft beer, make a stay at their campground, rent a room, or be able to admire the customized Jeeps and Forerunners that come down from the Rubicon Trail for respite on a Sunday evening. It is a no-frills type of place, but if you enjoy the ruggedness of the Sierras, I think you will appreciate the efforts these owners make to create a hospitable, friendly, and welcome stop available to the public from Memorial Day through the end of hunting season.
