“Nice, but a few minor improvements would help”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

We enjoyed our one night stay in the Grand View room at the Black Heron Inn. It is a small B&B where the rooms are a part of the same building as the owners' residence. It's one of those places where you don't really have any contact with the owners unless you wish to, as the room is fully stocked before you arrive, and are not serviced during your stay. This is just fine with us.

Our room was nice with a gorgeous view. There's a downstairs portion with a small living room, kitchenette and bathroom, and a sleeping loft with bed. The bed was very comfortable.

I only have a couple of minor quibbles. First, it would be nice if there's a sofa in the living room rather than two recliners separated by a huge coffee table. On a romantic getaway, it would be nice to snuggle up on the couch rather than sitting 3 ft away from each other :). The other thing is the breakfast. There's plenty of cereal, fruit, and a home-made loaf cake (I think ours was persimmon). A little more variety in the pastry would be nice for the price of the room ($225). My husband didn't like the loaf cake so could only eat cereal.

One other note. Despite that it's only about a mile into town, you really can't walk after dark, as the road is windy, hilly and without sidewalks. So don't think you can walk to dinner.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: I think the Bay View room would be the best as it's upstairs so you can see the bay. The Ridge w...

Traveling Northern California, the Blake Heron Inn has been my favorite place to stay. Waking up each morning with breakfast already in the room so that I could simply make coffee and sit at the kitchen table looking out on a beautiful view was wonderful. The inn is very quiet and i was the only person there one of the three nights I stayed. There are great hiking recommendations in the room and I took one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever made based on those recommendations...take the Sky trail to Arch Rock if you have the time and energy.

I loved the privacy and beauty of this place. My expectations were set by other reviews on Trip Advisor, which I found to be really accurate. The directions were easy to follow to find the place and it is only a few minutes outside of town where restaurants are located. Cafe Reyes and the Bovine Bakery are also well worth the visit.

The Black Heron Inn is in Pt.Reyes station, yet far from any noise (an issue if you are close to Hwy 1 and its bikers). Our room on the top floor was pristine at check-in. The open view from our front loggia over the Tomales Bay is spectacular, do not miss the colors at sunrise. We like the extreme privacy, the freedom to make our own bkfast at our own leisure, the banana bread was superb. We did not see the owners during our two days stay, yet everything was right. The inn is close to a park trail head. A great place to relax.

Room Tip: The extra $ for the top floor room is well worth it, though we had used the lower floor rooms some y...

This inn is in a gorgeous setting, and bit by bit, the "inn" itself grows on you. When we first entered our room (the deluxe Grand View), it looked a bit shabby and down at the heels; the bed sheets were nice but the bed coverings and pillows were tatty and worn, and the furnishings otherwise quaint. The TV, if one wishes to watch it, is a tiny tube appliance. But the view from the living room is spectacular, the bathroom comfortable if not opulent, and the daily breakfast breads, juices, etc more than adequate. We bought our own coffee and snacks at the general store in Pt. Reyes Station. Everyone did leave us "alone" -- we ran out of toilet paper at the end of the weekend and there was no replacement around; we washed our own dishes -- but the privacy was nice. We would stay again should travels take us to this part of California. The view is worth the price, we thought.

Room Tip: I suspect any of the the three rooms would be fine. The grand view has a bed up in a loft space. t...

Black Heron Inn is just outside Point Reyes Station which has a couple good restaurants and a charming casual ambience. Point Reyes National Seashore is just a few minutes away with great hikes and views.
At the inn itself, we stayed in the Bay View suite which was roomy, clean, and well stocked with basic food. So it's self-serve which suited us fine. There's a very good market nearby.
More outstanding was that the suite has a picture window and deck with a wonderful view towards Tomales Bay. You could see the lower end of the bay, nearby pastureland with cows, and Inverness ridge in the Point Reyes National Seashore.
On the grounds itself, they have a pond hosting night herons. We also saw black tailed deer and turkeys on the grounds. If you take a walk back down the long gravel driveway in the evening you might see great white egrets flocking to a tree to roost.
The owners were not at home. We learned later that one of them was quite ill. A guy living there, who seemed to be managing the place in their absence, showed us in and was a pleasure to talk with about the area.
Had a hard time finding the place at first. The street numbering seems to be out of order.

We had the Grand view suite which has a great view and balcony. The location can not be beat. We did not like that the bedroom was up a steep stairs and the bathroom was downstairs so if you take that room be sure that does not bother you. The bedroom felt like it was decorated for your grandmother. The closets through out the space were locked which felt odd. You are connected to the main house that I assume the owners like in by a glass door that is covered by a curtain.
We never saw the owner and let ourselves into our room because we knew its name. We would have liked to been greeted and shown around.

Room Tip: I would stay in the two rooms downstairs that are not connected to the main house in the same way an...

Great location n beautiful place. Had cows in the pasture n wild turkeys greet us in the morning. Highly recommend. The room was fantastic with a great view (Bay suite). Even had binoculars in the room. Close enough to town, but far enough for privacy.
