Actually spelled Point Reyes. Wonderful views if not foggy. Long drive from San Francisco. Dress warm. Great hikes.

It's Point Reyes (Rey-es), and it's not in San Francisco. It's on the ocean in Marin County. The walk along the beach is wonderful, and it's a good area for birding.

The views are Breathtaking and hypnotic. The drive is relaxing and occassionally you come accross a few wilde animals. Make sure you take the side trips.

To be this close to an urban area and yet be so removed was wonderful. Brisk air; wide, expansive views. was impressed with the shuttle service now offered to transport to the lighthouse that protects the environment.

We were able to snag a site at Wildcat campground, and stayed for two nights. We lucked out with clear cloudless days (and nights). The star-gazing was great even with the half-moon so bright. Thumbs up to the park management for putting lots of space between the campsites. Even at capacity, we didn't feel like we were camping on top of each other.

The hike in from Palomarin trailhead was not too difficult, even for us amateurs. There were a couple of mean uphills, but overall not so bad. When the trail opened up to the sea, the views were to die for. The site itself had a picnic table, a food locker (great for keeping the critters away from your ramen noodles) and a grill. We had campsite #7 and we had our own private cliff-top sitting area. There is potable water and pit toilets (but the poor guys who had site 1a had to deal with the aromas wafting down from them). Beach access was really convenient.
