This great restaurant is on the second floor of a building at Point Arena Pier. It has a wonderful great of the cove complete with surfers and fishing boats. The food is delicious. Many items are homemade in the restaurant including their salad dressings. Often they have fresh locally caught fish on the menu. They have a wonderful selection of brews, many of them local. The service is friendly and attentive. Tracy the owner/manager is committed to great food and good service.

On recent vacation to Southern Mendo, went here on a cool, crisp sunny summer day for lunch with my family. Had the most wonderful SIMPLY salad topped with the freshest Salmon imaginable, a vinegarette dressing of some sort on top. Waitress knew about gluten-free dining and gave out their little gifl/coloring kit to our daughter who was thrilled. Everyone happy, the chowder was good. No complaints heard. Beautiful bar, I mean a gorgeous old bar. And lots and lots of beer on tap and bottles. Fairly crowded at lunch. Prices? OK for being a virtual monopoly on this type of seafood house in these isolated parts. OK now, so we went back couple nights later for dinner- maybe 2 tables full of customers, same menu, fresh Salmon. Service- marginal, with several staffers gabbing away at a nearby table- there is nothing worse than being subjected to staff personal conversations. Worst part- the fresh salmon was cooked OK (I think), but absolutely ruined by a seeming half gallon of tomatoey sauce, absolutely destroying any semblence of fresh local Chinook salmon flavor. A literal bad taste in my mouth all night, and did not sit well at all. Prices are higher and probably too high for this type of meal at dinner. So, a negative dinner experience following that decent lunch experience. As someone else just noted- so much potential in such a classic setting. But likely will not return. I would however recommend this place to micro brew fans, as the setting and selection is top notch.

Been to this place several times, just because there are so few options now in Point Arena. The views are great, the restaurant furnishing is simple and boring, the service is very splotchy... sometimes excellent but sometimes really bad. The menu is appealing, but the food isn't. Had several things on the menu at different times, and all were good concepts that were just, frankly, poorly cooked.

We stopped here for dinner, and weren't expecting fine cuisine. We were hoping for good, simply prepared seafood. Unfortunately, the chowder was watery and lacking in flavor (had to add tabasco to make it taste like anything). I ordered a caprese verde salad, which sounded interesting but was actually quite odd. It was a plate full of raw kale with a port reduction which seemed like a balsamic vinaigrette. On top of this bed of kale (and I love kale, but even I could not have eaten this amount) were four large slices of mozzarella, which would have been good except each one literally had about three tablespoons of pesto on it. It was an example of four things that were each individually ok, but collectively a disaster. My husband had some fried prawns which were edible but not fabulous, and onion rings that were probably the best item.

I know there aren't a lot of good eating options on the coast, but no point in driving down to the marina for this one. Unless you just want to watch the sunset, and maybe drink beer (they had lots). Or get the most hysterical proposition of your life. As we walked by this group of young men hanging out in the parking lot, one said to my husband, "Yo, bro, wanna buy....a salmon?" To my NYC-raised husband, that alone was worth the drive!

We pulled in at The Pier Chowder House & Tap Room in our hungry desperation. It's pretty much at the end of nowhere in Point Arena, literally situated on a commercial fishing dock. The restaurant lived up to the billing in its name at least. The beer selection was pretty decent, but most importantly it was cold! We each had one of the two different chowders, and both were really quite good. The other food we ordered was pretty average - hard to mess up cheeseburgers. The lettuce in the salads was a little on the yellow side, but we've had worse. However, the service was extremely slow, and the staff seemed confused as to who should wait on what table. We had to ask and wait for refills and the check. All in all not too bad a choice when you're hungry. The beer is cold. The chowder hot. And the sunset view is incredible.
