“Big Crush FAIL for Helwig Winery”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

I stopped by the Helwig winery for the popular Big Crush weekend. I went into their attractive tasting room with nice views of the area but was told to go outside to a special Big Crush reception area. I went as directed another 100 feet and was directed to a separate area outside and several hundred feet below the tasting room on a circuitous path requiring a healthy climb to get back up to the parking area. Every other Big Crush winery I visited accomodated Big Crush participants in their main tasting rooms Not forcing them to walk outside and down some distance to a separate rather distant area. A woman in her 40s with her elderly mother were given the same instructions I received and we all refused returning to our cars to visit more cooperative and accomodating wineries. The attractive main tasting room was almost empty and could have easily handled our tasting experience.

“Don't miss this Winery in Amador County”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

Great tasting room! Awesome vistas! A wine cave not to be missed. A great selection of really tasty wine. Concerts throughout the summer and a great place to have a party or a wedding. One was being set up the day we visited and was and unbelievable venue with a outdoor chapel and covered dining area. The Helwig's have done a phenominal job creating this jewel in Amador County.

“New CA Rush is On --To this Tasting Room”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

After a day of taste bud heavy lifting around Amador County, our group made a final stop at Helwig winery and tasting room. Little did we know we saved the best for last! Although relatively new, it hasn't kept much of a secret - the place was quite popular even at end of a Saturday, with many people carting bottles to their cars (I left with several). Don't know which was better, the vino or the views -- both were simply stunning. The cave is unbelievable, and unique in Amador, as far as I know. I highly recommend a stop here.

“Beautiful view, lovely wine”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

We enjoyed a private tasting in the cave. It is so beautiful down below the ground. It's cool, so wear a sweater or jacket. It was all lit with candles so it had a mystical feeling to it. In the private room where the wines are laying down, we enjoyed 5 different wines. All of them were good, and some were excellent. There is another area that a large party could be held. Above ground is the tasing room. Very large, and the pourers were friendly and helpful. There is NO charge for the tasting. Wine is priced reasonably. ($18-25) They do have some hats, bottled water etc. to purchase. The outdoor area overlooks the Sierra mountains in one direction, and vineyards in another. Bring a picnic and sit and drink your wine and enjoy the surroundings.
