We spent a night at the Shenandoah Inn while on a short excursion to the Amador wine country. It is located in the Mother Lode town of Plymouth on Highway 49 about 40 miles east of downtown Sacramento, or about an hour's drive over a two-lane rural highway. This modestly sized, two-story motor inn exceeded our expectations. It was immediately apparent that the innkeepers really care about their property and their guests. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the rooms are large, comfortable, and very clean. Most have a lovely view of a huge, oak-studded cow pasture to the rear of the building and are equipped with a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. We even got mints on our pillow, a rare treat in this very affordable price range. Bathroom counter space is ample. There is also a very nice swimming pool, a small gym, ice machine and soft drink vending machine, and a breakfast room where they serve a complimentary Continental breakfast of juice, pastries, toast or bagels, dry cereal, and fresh fruit. The breakfast room includes a work station with computer and printer. There is high-speed Internet access and pets are allowed in certain rooms.

The staff is great, too. We happened to mention that one of our party was having a birthday. Shortly after we checked in, the desk clerk brought us a bottle of good local wine and a big candy bar as a gift--what a delightful surprise!

The only things that keep us from giving this place five stars were a really noisy bathroom fan, a missing drain plug in the sink so we could not fill the basin with water, and no safety grab bar in the bathtub/shower. Also, there are no restaurants within walking distance, so you need to drive about a mile and a half to find a place to eat.

Room Tip: Rooms on the long side of the L-shaped building have the best views. Also, there are no elevators, so if stairs are a problem, you will want to book a ground-floor room.

We stayed here Valentine's weekend. We were only able to reserve a double queen room. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfy. The best part of the place was the view. From our bedroom window, we could see rolling hills, trees, and green grass. They provide a breakfast consisting of cereal, fruits, English muffins, bagels, juices, and coffee. Overall, our stat was pleasant.

Recently stayed one night at the Shenandoah Inn and it was a great experience. I would recommend it and I would come back. We stayed on the 2nd floor and it was nice and clean and the view was beautiful. I slept with the window cracked and listened to the frogs croaking nearby. It was quite peaceful. Management was also very friendly.

Just spent two nights at the Shenandoah Inn. So impressed with a nice open room, very clean, nicely decorated, good TV, beautiful view, comfortable bed, with microwave and mini fridge. We were there with friends, and the owner suggested that we could use the gas bbq and have dinner by the pool. He offered that he had the tools we needed for cooking our steaks, and even moved an outdoor heater from the front of the inn to poolside for our comfort. Wonderful, friendly service.

Room Tip: I loved having an upstairs room, we had such a beautiful view.

We were at Shenandoah Inn in January 2012, and again in December 2012. Each time we return we are stunned by the improvements. The place is very clean, everything has been upgraded. We stayed in our favorite room, and noticed a new sofa and table and chairs. They now have a coin-operated guest laundry and a new fitness room. I can't recommend this highly enough. Additionally, the place is extremely quiet. We do not hear any noise during the night.

Room Tip: The south wing has great views of the Sierra Foothills.
