“Fabulous Sashimi Platter and Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2012

We were treated to a fantastic and plentiful platter of eight kinds of sashimi, including abalone last Monday evening. Fresh, and tasty, it must have cost over $200!!!! Friends are the best. Also tantalizing were the spicy tuna handrolls, tempura, gyoza, and nigiri sushi. Honda-san has changed my mind about sushi bars in Contra Costa County!!!!

“Great Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2011

Great food, lots of variety of sake, and lots of fun! Friendly staff! Jo comes around to offer us free Soju once in awhile. We also get freebies such as salmon head and gyoza.

“The best sushi in the Bay Area!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2011

We hadn't been to Jo's in a long time (once they moved, it became alot more difficult to get a seat!) but I asked the kids to bring me for Mother's Day.
We started with oysters on ice with a ginger mignonette that is to die for. Next, we got a bunch of nigiri- the garlic albacore is absolutely melt-in-your-mouth amazing. My husband loves the scallops, and the tuna magaro (sp?) is amazing.
The kids wanted rolls, and we got a spider roll, and a couple other that I don't know what they were called- but they were great!!!
Jo has always had a great saki list, try the otokoyama (again, I'm sure I'm murdering the spelling) in a box.
Go early, though- you might be lucky to sit at the bar and just ask Jo to surprise you - but if not, Yoko (who still remembers us, even our names!) will take great care of you at a table.

“Great Fish, Great Service, and a Neighbordhood Kind of Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2008

We have been going to Jo's since 2000, when he was in a different location (near the Outback Steakhouse). Jo is almost always behind the counter and the serving staff has been the same this entire time. The menu includes the standards plus some unique-to-Jo rolls.

The fish is always fresh - sometimes the toro seems to just melt in your mouth. Tempura is light and tastey, although we almost always order sushi.

He's got a salt water tank that's been fun to watch develop over the years.

Best of all, the servers remember you. We live overseas now and only get to Jo's a couple of times a year, but Yoko always greets us by name and, if it's not too busy a night, will chat.

If you live in Concord/Pleasant Hill/Martinez/Lafayette you should definitely give Jo's a try!
