Took a girl's weekend away to celebrate a friends 50th birthday. The Ciffs Resort was great! While we were there we went to 5 other highly rated motel/inns in Pismo to check out the rooms and we felt we had the best one in the city. We had ocean view rooms...they were large rooms, very clean and very comfortable. The beds were great. The hotel staff were SLO students - just darling...they were extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again next time I'm in the area and my friends said they would bring their husbands back for a romantic weekend. The workout room was decent, plenty of cardio equipment and weights. We went into San Louis Obispbo - Blue Sky Cafe is a must for lunch or dinner. Defintely spend an evening at the Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville in Oceano (town right next to Pismo) Its a playhouse with local actors - only $17 - casual with sawdust on the floor (food/alchohol for purchase). Great evening - well worth the $17. It's a small playhouse though so you don't want front row. I'd go for middle for back. Went to the Sycamore HotSprings one evening...I wouldn't do it again. Not worth the money - Even after a shower, my skin smelled of sulfur (rotten eggs). The kids working at Sycamore were unattentive and had attitudes. Didn't have time to visit the wineries in Paso Robles area but we had a great time visiting the wineries in the SLO area (Edna Valley area). So not only were we delighted with our stay at The Cliffs Resort, there is definitely plenty to do in the Pismo area. We arrived Friday afternoon and left Monday morning, we felt we needed at least one more day...didn't want to leave! Oh, and the weather ended up being perfect. Sunny every day. Feb 10-13, 2006

The GOOD: Free Wireless (and I can write this review while my family sleeps). Heavenly beds, great ocean views. Friendly/Helpful staff, very clean room. More towels than I know what to do with. Nice Relaxing spot!

The Bad: Thin doors and loud hallways. Parking is limited (forces the use of a valet). VERY LOUD fountain that overpower the sound of the ocean.

What a great location for our family reunion. Although the staff never could seem to get our room assignments and billing straight, they were helpful in all other respects. We all had ocean/pool view rooms; this isn't a new hotel and there are some signs of wear and tear, especially in the corridors, but the rooms themselves are very comfortable. Drinks on the patio are a must, if only for the view. The pool and hot tub were greatly enjoyed. Food in the dining room is only so-so and typically expensive. Some of it was okay and some of it was pretty bad, but they accommodated our party of 23 for dinner one night and the service was very good. This isn't a five-star resort, but the location makes up for whatever the hotel lacks.

The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating from the second we pulled in (in the wrong direction.)

Our room was good sized with a nice view over the pool out to the ocean. It seemed, though, that there more rooms without views than with and I don't think I would pay the extra money to stay at this hotel without having a view.

Friday night's happy hour was PACKED with college kids who had come down from San Luis Obispo for the free food. We literally could not get in to get a drink so we had to head elsewhere.

The exercise room was actually pretty decent and the pool and hot tub were good size for the size of the hotel. Unfortunately when we arrived the hot tub was empty and took a day to heat once they filled it.

The hotel is a bit removed from downtown Pismo which depending on what you're looking for can be a plus or minus. If you want to walk to things and be in the hustle, it's not for you. If you want to be a bit more upscale and relaxed, it could be exactly what you're looking for.

Our stay at The Cliffs Resort was excellet! From the reservation agent who confirmed our reservation to Brian the Concierage who mapped out our day. The Cliffs Resort is a beautiful location on the Central Coast to enjoy sand and surf beaches to the quaint, family owned wineries in the Arroyo Grande and Edna Valley vineyards. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms clean, comfortable and inviting. They even let me bring my dog!
We look forward to our return to The cliffs Resort.

My husband and I stayed at the Cliffs in October, using a rate that included breakfast. The hotel itself is ok. An older property that has done some refurbishing, but still showing signs of age in some areas. The views are magnificent. We arrived during happy hour and selected a table on the patio. When we went inside to partake of the hors d'oeuvres, we found numerous flies buzzing around and on the food. Apparently others weren't bothered by this, but we were turned off completely and left. If the food is free, I guess some people will eat anything. In the morning we went down to breakfast assuming that since the patio doors were now closed, the flies would be a non issue. We were wrong. 90% of the food items were uncovered and I counted more than a dozen flies buzzing on the food and us. We immediately complained to the front desk and were told they would speak with the manager and steps would be taken to remedy the problem right away. Strangely, they had received no other complaints. Hard to believe we are the only ones who object to flies on the food. Although the staff were pleasant and sympathetic, the next morning there was no change, and again we complained to no avail. Makes you wonder what the conditions are like in the kitchen itself. We sent a letter to their Corporate Headquarters on our return and never received a response. So, stay at the hotel if you choose, but don't say you weren't warned if you decide to eat in the restaurant.

We booked a reservation for the 2nd and 3rd of July as we were driving up the coast for a vacation. We had reconfirmed the reservation 2 days before and when we arrived they had no clue, no reservation, no service. Since we arrived after a long drive, it was dark. They had no apology, no explanation, no manager available. After asking for a local phone book, they did call a motel down the street. This is not a resort. After staying in places like the Moana in Waikiki, this is a very different type of resort. It is a 1950's motel with a facelift. One redeeming feature is the patio and restaurant that overlooks the shore. We have shared our experience with all our friends that go up there for a soccer tournament in February in hopes that they might avoid a similar experience. They will get more value by going to a motel down the street.
