My wife and I come and stay here a few times a year and have never been disappointed. Very clean rooms, great service, and great accomidations with great views. The only criticism I would have is the distance from the pier but that's no big deal if ya have a car.

We had a lovely time sitting on the balcony with the ocean view. We saw whale spouts for the first time. We watched a sea gull protecting her two baby seagulls atop the rock near the hotel. We got a closer look when we walked along the trail leading to the ocean. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast staff were friendly. We had a very nice time.

I had to laugh at the "funky seagull poo smells" comment in a previous review. Having stopped at the elephant seal lookout point near Cambria (which you must do, if you are travelling through there) those seagull smells were nothing.

There are two Best Western Plus hotels close together on the same stretch of road. Make sure you go to the right one .... we made the mistake of trying to check into the wrong one ... doh!!!

We really liked this hotel: good location, great views, very helpful staff and nice spacious rooms. Our only complaint was that breakfast got very crowded at around 8.15 a.m. and I'm not sure that the staff were able to keep up with the spike in activity.

I really wanted to like this motel (which is rather too grandly styled a "lodge"), but ultimately, for me, its flaws outweighed its good points.

First, the good.

The views of the ocean are terrific, from the room and from almost everywhere else on the property. Sea, sunset, and all that.

There's access to a small beach down the cliff, which is nice. Bigger and better beaches are a short drive away.

Our top floor room was very clean, light, airy, large, and pretty nice. The few faults are:
1 There wasn't a light above the one comfortable chair inside the room.
2 The beds were a bit small for 2 people.
3 There was no way to keep a window open at night for outside air, without leaving the sliding door open to the world. This last issue is particularly shameful, since the fresh sea breeze would be nice at night.

Now, the bad:

You might not want to keep the sliding door open anyway, if you have a sensitive nose, since then then you'd smell the seagull poop all night long also, from the guano-covered rocks not far from the motel.

Also, some of the walkways are covered in fresh and dried seagull poop, which you might not want to walk on.

The WiFi was slowish (3 megabits/sec) considering the cost of the room. (4G on my iPhone was 5.4 in most of the room, and 25.3 in one spot.)

I could forgive these things, given the view, except that the set-up of the rooms creates a situation such that your being able to quietly enjoy the view from your outside deck is held hostage to your neighbor's use of his air conditioner. The rooms are set up in pairs, with two air conditioners set up between your deck and your neighbor's deck. Even though the the temperature was a nice 66 degrees F., once our neighbors arrived, they fired up their air conditioner and never turned it off all evening. This made sitting outside on the deck much less pleasant than before they'd arrived, and since the primary reason to stay at such a motel such s this is to sit outside and look at the view, this design flaw of the motel is unforgivable (especially considering the high cost of the room, which for us was about $350 per night, everything included).

(As an aside, according to my daughter, these same neighbors, who were apparently a European couple, provided the world with a display of the woman's naked body as she stepped out onto the deck without any clothing. Europeans are much more prone to public nudity than Americans [for better or for worse, and in this case I wasn't around to make a judgement], but still this was odd, though certainly amusing.)

Of course different people like different things, and these people had every right turn on their air conditioner rather than simply open their door, but it IS the fault of the hotel to allow such a thing to occur, when it detracts so greatly from the one factor that allows them to charge such an exhorbitant rate, and when they could devise an alternate system of room cooling that didn't have the same drawback.

The hotel's website touts its "quiet and peaceful location." But for us it was not quiet, because of the neighbor's air conditioner. BTW, it is also located very close to the freeway, and you DO hear freeway noise, although for me that wasn't a real problem.

For this reason, I cannot recommend this hotel. I would not stay here again, except perhaps in winter, when this flaw would be rendered moot by the cold, and when, presumably, the rate would be more moderate.

Room Tip: If you're an internet millionaire, rent two adjoining rooms and don't turn on the air condit...

Stayed here for 1 night in April 2014. Very clean unit but the view is absolutely beautiful. Try to stay on the top level if possible. Bed was a bit short as I'm only 5"11 and my feet were hanging over the edge. Breakfast was good and had most things that we wanted. Marine life totally abundant. Great for walks.

Room Tip: Try to get the upper level for unrestricted views.

What a lovely location! Beautiful large room with balcony and full ocean view. We stopped here on our road trip from San Francisco to San Diego, and loved this location. There is one restaurant within walking distance, but as you are just outside Pismo town you really have to drive to find more. The location and view well made up for this. Breakfast was adequate, there was a pancake machine. Lovely stay, fantastic value.

Room Tip: All the rooms appear to have a full ocean view and balcony. Fantastic.

Our party of 4 stayed overnight to break the drive from San fran to LA.. delightful spot clean, tidy and very friendly staff. Beautiful views of the beach... As we didnt know where anything was we drove along and found a street with lots of food options, shopping and entertainment and was easy to find our way back so am guessing it's central and would love to stay again
