I have been going o Pismo for years. A regular family stop is at McLintocks. WE have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The portions are very large so I recommend going ahead and splitting the meal with someone. They do charge you to split the meal but that is only because you then get all the little extras that come with the meal - Onion Rings, Potatoes, Beans, Bread, etc . . . This last trip I tried the Chicken Masala and could not have been more pleased. Our waiter was great and the service was very good. If you have not been before, it is worth a visit.

“Bar drinks mostly ice. Food okay but not wow.”

See above. Good view if you get a good table...but average taste and quality. Average service because the staff seemed overwhelmed with Saturday dinner crowd. Good guitar player in the bar. He was the best thing. We will shop for another restaurant next time in Pismo.

“Fun place, but the food is mediocre at best.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

The restaurant is a hoot, a kitschy Western-themed steak house, but we did not enjoy the food. The steaks, hamburgers, potatoes and almost everything that was cooked in the kitchen had a similar BBQ-spice flavor (I wish I could identify what it was) that everyone at my table found over done. The very high quality filet mignon cut that I had would have been much better without so much seasoning.

We also all tried the Turkey Nuts (yes, it is what it sounds like). They are deep-fried and no one at our table liked them. They had a very gamey-flavor and an unpleasant texture. So, unless you just want to say you tried them for the sake of the experience, you would probably be well served by passing on this particular delicacy.

“big portions”

The view from the window tables was great. The portions were very large and one entree could be easily shared.

“The experience surpassed my low expectations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

I live within 2 miles of this restaurant and had not been in 30 years, primarily because I consider it a crowded, over priced, tourist trap. Friends had a gift certificate and invited us along. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The decor has not changed in 30 years... saloon style with polaroid pictures on the walls. The service was excellent. Friendly and plentiful. The manager was very hands on, rather than just overseeing from a distance. The food was good, not great. Filet cooked nicely. Veggies al dente. The ocean view is, of course, spectacular. Here are my tips to improve your dining experience:
1. Make reservations. We had them and were seated right away. Otherwise, the wait was 30 minutes on a MONDAY night.
2. Go on Monday or Tuesday, if possible. Wines (many, not sure all) by the bottle are 1/2 off.
3. Split your entree. Dinners range from $25 - $40 each. Portions are large. For $9 more, you can split an entree, but the family style side dishes are not split. So the onion rings, baked beans, potatoes, and garlic bread is enough for everyone; only the entree is shared. This makes dining for two people much more affordable.
