We stayed here in Late May on our way to San Francisco. The reviews I had read prior to making our booking were very fair and accurate. This had been our 6th Hotel on our trip which made it difficult to be as fair as possible in reviewing the hotel. Saying that this was the cheapest but had the best view. The accommodation was more than sufficient. If we had stayed for more than one day we would have been able to make use of the fridge.

We used the pool and spa to relax in after a long day's drive but didn't have time to venture to the beach.

The view from the room is one the best we experienced on our holiday. The food and the setting of the Restaurant next day were also very good.

We would highly recommend this hotel and stay there again if we are ever in that part of the world.

First of all I want to comment on a previous comment from the family who stayed at the Kon Tiki because they heard every room has an ocean view but they were fogged in the two days they were there and couldn't see the ocean so they won't be back. I think that had a little something to do with Mother Nature, not the hotel.
The hotel isn't luxurious, no, but its very well kept, clean and very reasonable rates for an ocean view room (check the rates at the other hotels along the coastline). The staff is very friendly and vending machines are well stocked. The Hotel is positioned so that you don't see anything else around you except the ocean. It was like being on your own private island, unlike the Edgewater hotel, in Pismo, who's ocean view was just past the view of the parking lot.
We used to stay at the Sea Crest Resort just down the street but we found the rate was cheaper at Kon Tiki at the time we stayed there. I fully recomend the Kon Tiki.

A must stay when in Pismo Beach.
Clean, large rooms with beautiful views.
Clean, manicured, landscaped lawns.
Our first visit, but we will definitely be back!

Our family of 4 stopped for one night at the Kon Tiki mid-July 2006. We had selected this motel based on comments from tripadvisor members.
Overall, this is a fine place, very well kept and managed. The service at the front desk is courteous, very friendly and simply, some of the best I have seen. The heated pool is of a good size and protected from the cool ocean breeze by glass panels. We got a suite on the ground floor which was OK for one night although I would recommend 2nd or 3rd. The suites are of a good size, very clean but are nothing really special. This is not a luxurious place. Handy were the separate sink and counter, mini fridge and microwave, and some great coin-operated laundry facilities on-site. The site looked impressive although, about 3 miles along the coast, we were totally fogged in the 2 days we were there. We could hear the waves but could not see the ocean. That took out some of the interest of staying there. We probably were out of luck. Can't say we would go back.

We only stayed one night at the Kon Tiki but it's a tremendous hotel in the quiet picturesque town of Pismo Beach. Every room has a great view of the Pacific. The rooms are very nice and newly renovated. Pool and two hot tubs by the ocean. Outsanding beach and interesting caves and tidal pools to explore in front of the hotel. Wished we had stayed longer....
