We called and booked onto the kayak tour with Bill, after reading all the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor - and I am so glad we did! As the kayak tour is definitely a highlight of our trip up the Pacific Coast Highway so far.

Bill was very friendly and helpful on the phone when I spoke to him, and even more so when we met him in person. The Surf Shop is very accessible and easy to get to straight off the highway. You can pay by cash or credit card - $70 each. We had a chat with Bill and he kitted us up with our wet suits and booties - a tight fit! lol Then Corey drove us 5mins to the beach and carried our kayaks down the steps to the water for us. We put on life jackets and helmets, were given brief instructions and away we went!

Our time out on the water was breath taking - we were up close and personal to all kinds of sea life including many many sea otters - we even saw a baby riding on it's mother's back :-) We paddled in and out of many smalls caves and tight cracks - great fun! It was low tide and not at all windy so we were very lucky.

The kayaks were in excellent condition and we felt entirely safe with our excellent guide Corey - who we cannot thank enough! He took awesome photos of us and our route through the caves and sealife we saw enroute, which Bill gave to us on our return on a free CD - bonus! We did take our own cameras but we were so busy concentrating on paddling we forgot to take any! lol

The quirky surf shop is definitely worth a look around and maybe pick up a souvenir or two, but the kayak tours are a MUST! Allow approx 2 hours from start to finish. Bill recommended the 7am tour as it is less windy, which was certainly perfect for us :-) And we were back in car by about 9.15am.

Bill was very friendly and helpful on the phone when I called in advance to inquire, then later book a Kayak tour for my family of 4. Bill's genuine interest in making our trip successful continued throughout our entire visit; from getting fitted for wetsuits at his shop, to the kayak tour and even later in the day when we picked up our free CD of photos.

We never felt rushed during the tour, enjoying long stops at mini shell beaches only accessible by water. The tour of the Dinosaur and Pirate caves were fun and just challenging enough that the kids and adults felt we our own expedition.

There are no easily accessible areas on the beach to launch the kayaks so the only cumbersome part of the trip was hauling the kayaks down and then back up the few flights of stairs to the beach. Bill was happy to haul all 3 kayaks by himself but we helped. His equipment was in very good shape, clean and well-maintained. His photography is admittedly not top notch but the CD is free and it beats having to take your own phone/camera on the water and risk it getting wet or going overboard.

I highly recommend this small, local Surf Shop. Check out his crazy collection of seaglass, island and nautical decor. Thanks, Bill!

Stopped to get gear and surfboard for teenage son to rent. Very helpful and took time to fit him and make sure he was on a board for his ability. On day 2 of our trip we found a wetsuit to buy so took the rental suit back. The owner said he could sell us a wetsuit. We thought he only rented gear. So we returned the other suit we purchased and came back to get a better suit for same price. Plus we bought boots and gloves. He put our remaining rental fees toward purchase price plus took 5-10 bucks off the listed price. I would definitely recommend seeing if they can set you up for either rental or purchase. I hear they so surf lessons and kayak tours and I'm sure they are great as well!

I haven't even done a kayak tour and I love this place. The collection of beach oddities is simply amazing - shells, coral, jewelry, and especially the crystal-rock-like slag glass of various breathtaking colors. Also available are unique authentic signs, decorative sculptures, antiques, surf wear and equipment, and much more. I live two hours away, and I've already been back three times just to get more slag glass, and I'll keep coming back.
A must-see for beach and water lovers!

My teen daughter and I have kayaked together in many places. We liked the Pismo Surf shop for its eclectic garden, relaxed owner/guide, and a great cave tour complete with photos. I thought the tour was a bit pricey compared to others we have done in our hometown of Santa Cruz, but it was just the 2 of us with a guide, and we really liked getting a photo disk of our adventure. The location we explored was beautiful and out guide explained what we needed to do at each section before we went through each arch/cave. It was nice to stop on the beach in a few places and look for agates and other interesting stones. We felt the trip as a bit short, but when our arms were sore from paddling on the open ocean the following day, we realized it was just right. We plan on returning for other ad
