When we got to Pioneertown we went to Pappy and Harriet's. Known for their music and food, this was a great choice. We had to wait (even at 2pm), but it was worth it. I got a fabulous swiss and avocado burger with cheesy bacon fries. It was fantastic! Second best burger I've ever had (La Hacienda Ranch still wins that award) and the best cheese fries I've ever eaten. I'd definitely go back if I were in the area.

Foxy's in Jost Van Dyk, BVI's; Pete's Pub in Little Harbour, Bahamas; Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown, CA............ all memorable for real people, real music and real food!!! If you want a "slice of life", this is the place. On our first visit many years ago we were shocked at how wonderful the food was in this eclectic, out-of-the-way gem. Carefully prepared and delicious meats from the huge outdoor mesquite smoker / grill are complimented with with delicious sides, including the best mac and cheese I have ever tasted. Over the years we have witnessed a biker rally, goth wedding, drops outs, cowboys, indians and the country club set all co-existing in harmony at Pappy and Harriets. Some come for the great food, some come for the ever changing musical groups, some come for the "vibe". We go (often) for the whole works. If you want fancy, see Wolfgang Puck................. if you want great food, value and fun, run, don;t walk to Pappy and Harriet's. BTW, you will likely need a reservation in the evening. One of our favorite places on earth!!!!

We heard about Pappy & Harriets from a cooking/travel program so we decided to visit while in southern California. It's somewhat in the middle of nowhere which adds interest. When we arrived, we noticed that a group of seniors were bussed in for lunch. The menu offered good variety and the atmosphere was old style western. Our server was friendly and helpful, suggesting a combination dish not listed on th menu. Our food was good, not great but the cheese fries were "Killer". We would go back for them alone. It was February and much to our surprise, we were engolfed by a snow storm. All in all a good experience.

We visited for lunch on a quiet week day. What an amazing building, we spent most the meal gazing at all the memorabilia on the wall. The service was fabulous, we were seated quickly and our orders were taken promptly. Te kids had kids meals of hotdogs and that seemed to hit the spot They loved their drinks served in jars. My partner had pulled pork sandwich which he said was nice and tender but a bit bland especially after tasting my nachos... Wow. What a treat. This was the most delicious meal I had on all my journey through the south. The chilli was made with big chunks of tender beef and the flavour was spot on. It's defiantly worth the small detour off 29 palms highway. We did wander the town but there really wasn't too much too see that we haven't seen elsewhere. Very reasonable price for the large portions you get, we both couldn't finish our meal it was so huge.

Loved this place. There were 5 in our group and everybody enjoyed the meal. Highlight was the Porterhouse steak, double cut pork chop and sliced Tri-tip. All 5 meals were very good though. Great place to hear live music while enjoying an outstanding meal. Reasonable prices, eclectic atmosphere and friendly staff
