Attraction details
Owner description: Handley Cellars is a small family-owned winery in California’s Mendocino County. Bonded in 1982, we produce around 12,000 cases of wine a year. Our quality starts with our Estate Vineyards in Anderson Valley. We are located at the northwest end of the Anderson Valley on 59 acres of the original Holmes Ranch. Still standing on the property are the now-refurbished ranch house, barn, and the original water tower. At Handley Cellars, we offer a wide variety of wines that complement today’s diverse cuisines. Winemaker Milla Handley seeks to make balanced wines that possess distinctive varietal characteristics, wines that reflect the soil and climate in which they were grown. Handley’s beautiful tasting room is located 6 miles northwest of Philo, California, on Highway 128. We offer tours by appointment, and our garden courtyard is open for picnics. Stop by to try our selections and, while visiting, enjoy our unique display of folk art collected from around the world.

“Great stop”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

Stopped on our way to Mendocino, and was happy we chose this winery to take a break. The antiques were amazing, the staff friendly (& helpful - she gave me Ginger candy for my naseua) and the wine was exceptional. Just opened a bottle tonight and it reminded me how awesome this winery is!

“Good wines!”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Great place to taste wine on the way to the Mendocino Coast. Quite enjoyable drive through the Anderson Valley during the late summer viewing all the vineyards, redwood forest, then the beautiful coastline.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

Handley Cellars is a standout in a valley that has a number of excellent wineries. All of their wines are beautifully made, with clean flavors and nice balance. The tasting room has a unique display of folk art from around the world, a legacy from the winemaker's father. Milla Handley is kind of a legend in her own right – one of California's first women winemakers! There's a cool historic ranch house and water tower on the property, and the terrace outside the tasting room is a great place for a picnic. Couldn't recommend more highly!

“great wine”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

Only one other time have we found a winery where we like both their whites and their reds. Friendly, informative staff, relaxed atmosphere. Joined the wine club as we found so many wines to purchase. We typically don't care for pinot noir but theirs is delicious. Nice sparkling wine too.

“Nice people - honest wines”
Reviewed May 17, 2012

I've always loved visiting the Anderson Valley. I think the overall quality of the wines from this region is excellent. Handley wines are great and the prices are reasonable. The tasting room staff is friendly and helpful. The patio is a great picnic spot when the weather permits...
