If you are headed for the Mendocino Coast, stopping at Navarro Winery and Handley Cellars (among other fabulous wineries) is a must. Both have lovely garden settings with clean picnic areas. Buy a bottle of Navarro pino noir (paired with cold poached salmon or chicken which you bring along) or Handley gewurstraminer (great with melon). Both make a perfect stop enroute to the coast. Staff are gracious, restrooms are clean. A great place to walk the dog. Another "must stop" is the Apple Farm in Philo to buy the worlds best jams and chutneys ($14 each and self-serve). The Apple Farm is also a great cooking school but book that well in advance. If you stay at the Apple Farm, beware of the rooster who welcomes the sun at 5am!

We live on the coast but enjoy taking day trips to the Anderson Valley for wine tasting, picnics, and taking in the beautiful scenery in this unspoiled valley. It's much more rustic and undeveloped than Napa Valley - certainly not the crowds of people and cars. Fall is a lovely time to visit when the apples are sold at roadside stands. Truly a lovely area.

This is the place I go to relax. The people are always friendly whether you go to a winery, stop for lunch or pop into a store. It is certainly not overcrowded and it feels like Napa but 30 or 40 years ago. Many people speed thru on their way to Mendocino and they are missing some wonderful pleasures. Boonville is worth a stop, several wineries are top notch, the Apple Farm is a treat and the country side is beautiful. Hopefully the population will be able to keep the Hendy Woods State Park open and available for visitors.

Green and open and rolling hills and roads. The beauty of this place is stunning in any season.

Anderson Valley is a lovely place to visit. The scenery is phenomenal, and the wineries that we visited all had a very laid-back and welcoming feel. We especially loved visiting Husch, Lula, and Greenwood Ridge cellars, although we really enjoyed every place we went. The wine is great, we didn't pay for a single tasting, and the bottles were very reasonable. If you want to truly get away, Anderson valley is a great place to do it.
