Quality Inn Petaluma - Sonoma
Ranked #4 of 9 Hotels in Petaluma

I was impressed when I called to confirm the reservation due to a glitch with Choice Hotels, and Jim, the manager, took my call. He was friendly and professional. He immediately emailed the confirmation and made it seem like it was his utmost pleasure to do so.

Our room was nice, well appointed, clean and the bed was comfortable enough. The breakfast was fine and provided enough choices for us.

All of the staff was friendly and the location was convenient; just off the freeway. We did not have any problems with noise although we did keep the fan running all night.

I even received a follow up email from Jim thanking us for our stay. I appreciate that attention to detail.

Used this as a starting off point to explore wine country and the coast. We picked it because it was pet friendly. Staff was friendly and attentive. Free breakfast every morning that included waffles, eggs, sausages, fruit, coffee and muffins. I had no issues with noise even though it's next to the freeway. This is a moderate level facility, so don't expense fancy stuff.mbut it is a solid value for your money and the area, which can be pricey. Why spend your money on a room you're going to sleep in? Save it for your vacation. Did I mention free wi-fi, Directv, flat screen tv? You can't go wrong here. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get room on first floor to unload your stuff.

This hotel looks more like an apartment complex than a hotel since it consist of several separate buildings. So if you get a second floor room you have haul your stuff up the stairs, no elevator. You have to open the hallway door 1st with your room card key, then open your room door. I could hear that door slam everytime somebody used it. Ugly green carpet had several stains and was dirty along edges. Sink had granite top, but shower had a separation from tile on floor whick looked ugly. Breakfast was good and included with price.

Thank you Axl for your comments. Our high season is from May to October, right now we are transitioning to our slower time, less crowds, lower pricing. You are correct about not having an elevator. If it was inconvenient for you to go upstairs, unless we were sold out, we would’ve gladly relocated you to a downstairs room. I will look into adjusting the closer for the hallway doors, they can be adjusted to close more slowly. As I mentioned in a review we received for last week, we will be changing out guestroom carpets next month and at the same time the threshold strips between the bathroom and the sleeping room will be replaced. We invite you to visit our area again – there’s always some place to discover – and you can see how our new carpet looks.

Perhaps because I snagged the next-to-last room on a busy Friday night, the room was at the bottom of the list for a reason. The carpet was beyond filthy, the bathroom though not out-n-out dirty, was certainlly dingy. The "quality" of the room seemed on par with econo-chains, yet the price was in the business-traveler range, without the perks. In particular, I would have appreciated more than one electrical plug...had to dig behind a chair and under the bed. That said, the staff were all quite pleasant and helpful. I noticed several matresses out by the dumpster - my hope is that this room is on the renovation list. I didn't attempt to change rooms since they were sold out, and I arrived late. Since they are listed as #2 in town, suspect I experienced the worst rather than the best this Quality Inn has to offer...

Thank you JudyTheGypsy for your comments, unfortunately, all your points are valid. Even with high occupancy during the weekdays and weekends, we have tried to get into one or two guest rooms to shampoo the carpet, unfortunately the room you checked into wasn’t one of them. We are in the process of renovating, next month we will be changing out the carpet in four of our buildings(one of the buildings being the one you stayed in) and we will also be converting our last eight smoking rooms into non-smoking rooms. I agree about the electrical plug issue, why back in 1985 when we opened there were no cell phones or laptops, so, the lack of strategically placed plugs can be an issue. If we weren’t sold out the night you arrived, we would’ve absolutely moved you. We can do better and I hope the next time you visit out area, you give us another chance.

Great hotel set up in six smaller buildings... Clean, comfortable, good breakfast selection. Ideal location on 101 is perfect for exploring the area, whether the Napa/Sonoma wine country, Santa Rosa, the redwoods or the coast. This far exceeded our expectations.

Booked last minute when traveling around Sonoma; looked along CA-12, & all $$$, one of the wineries gave us brochure got here, we called & price was great! Savings was worth the few minutes extra drive. I thought the breakfast was slightly better than the typical free breakfasts from chains in that they had salsa, cheese & sour cream for condiments for the eggs, & nicer looking pastries than the usual places (did not taste them though) and nice big sausages.

Pool looked really nice and clean. Rooms were clean and good sized, shower had good pressure. When we checked in, guy at desk looked for a better room for us implying that we should be away from the highway, so that may be something you may want to inquire about.

Would recommend this place in a heart beat.

jrpower, thank you for your comments. I was especially happy about how you found us - a winery gave you a brochure and you called us up. Our sales person will be happy to know that working to establish relationships with businesses pay off in the long run.

We're happy you enjoyed your room and our breakfast. We look forward to seeing you again.

...if you like a clean, modern, comfortable place to stay.
Our only complaint would be there were only four coat hangers in the wardrobe for two people who were staying seven nights, however we asked if more were available and acquired a further four, so all good!!
The reception area was inviting with it's sofa's and newspapers and free computer access and printer useage. Breakfast was served here each day and again, we couldn't fault it. From juice and cereal to bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs (with pastries, toast, fruit, yoghurt and waffles if you wanted them too) to the helpful staff.
Close (2 minutes in the car) to Highway 101 but not close enough for traffic noise, and within 5 - 10 minutes walking to a 7/11 and several restaurants.
Really enjoyed our stay there, and would definitely book there again when in the area. :)
