“Very interesting to see the history”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

The grounds are beautiful and full of history. Well worth the $3 entry fee. We were able to chat with a docent at the end of our self-guided tour where we followed a map. They had over 28,000 head of cattle at one point and used the hide for shoes, bedding and clothing. I am so glad I didn't live in that era.

“Great open museum and grounds”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

Very short walk, alongside a massive fence of prickly pear cactus, leads to a walkable, inspectable historic house with great museum exhibits and displays (don't miss the large rooms on the second floor). No elevators, but accessible path to ground floor of building over small bridge. We saw two student groups learning how to make candles and cook traditional food for themselves.

“The real Wild West”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Loved it all. The real thing. We had a fantastic docent who knew her stuff. The park ranger wasn't quite as pleasant, although apparently she is very busy. Interested to hear they run a school program. We actually got to go I to some of the exhibits. Fantastic!

“Authentic Old California”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

Spacious frontier ranch house in a comfy and relaxed setting. Not many examples of life in our state from this time. A good place to stop and picnic at your car, kill an hour or more, and be together with the family. It helps develop an identity as Californians to understand how people lived before our time. A worthy stop, I wouldn't drive much more than an hour unless you have other business nearby or are on an old California pilgrimage.
