We stopped here on our trip between San Francisco and Monterey. It's a beautiful park, great scenery and nice walking trails. When you get to where the elephant seals are there are docents there to answer any of your questions, they are very knowledgable. I could have spent all day.

They have returned after many years not being here and what a joy to have them. The males come in to molt in August, the females in June., During these times you can go without a tour guide to view them. There are docents there to answer questions and to protect the animals. If you go for the birthing and mating times you need to buy tickets and go in groups., The weather in Dec (birthing) till Feb Mating can be very cold and raining., We enjoy going in August to see the big boys up close,. like within 10 ft of us.

It's a ten dollar entrance fee and then about a three mile walk to the part of the coast with the seals.
A long part of the walk is on sand dunes which is not fun.
The final view was not that good as the seals are far and there was no huge seals, only young ones.
You better off going to one of tve shores of san simeon - its for free and the seals are closer

Definitely an experience not to miss. Pleasant 2 mile hike out to North Point, where docent await to teach about the elephant seals. Allow at least 2.5 hours, ideally longer, for a leisurely stroll out and back, plus plenty of time to savor the view and learn about these fascinating animals. Wish I could come back when the babies are being born.

we went there by a recommendation of a friend and did not regret it at all.
the walk is a little long but when you get it you will see why it is worth it.
