One of my favorite spots in Nevada County. Family friendly and very relaxing. Nice mild spot on the river even for the kids

Being from PA covered bridges are more common than CA so when we saw a sign along the highway for the longest covered bridge, we had to see what it was like. What a nice surprise. This is an awesome bridge in an awesome location and well worth the short drive from the main highway. We went Saturday morning and practically had the place to ourselves. Unfortunately we were not able to walk across the bridge due to gates that were installed on each side. It looked so inviting I just couldn't resist slipping under the gate and walking through it but I don't suggest doing that. The old restored barn with historic equipment in it was very interesting as was the restored Shell gas station and visible pump. This would be a great pic location if you had and old car from the 20s, 30s or 40s.
We hiked back the trail to a lake in the river and it was a beautiful hike and just long enough. took maybe 1.5 hours round trip and we were taking our time. We saw many wildflowers along the way. Again it was so nice because it wasn't crowded. There are picnic areas around the attractions and plenty of shade. Simply a beautiful place.

Lost in a major flood, rebuilt to its exact original beauty, good job, California! Very interesting history.

The covered bridge is the longest west of the Mississippi and is great to see. There is great swimming near the bridge in the Yuba. You can hang out there all day. It's Nevada County's favorite place to hang out in the summer. That and the Yuba off of hwy 49. There's an interesting little museum and a barn full of old buggies and farm equipment, etc. The Buttermilk Trail offers wonderful wildflower viewing in the spring. Go on one of the docent led walks!
