“Sunset at Spanish Bay with a Scottish Piper”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

The Inn at Spanish Bay is a beautiful property, part of the Pebble Beach Resorts and a perfect getaway for golf or relaxation and fine dining. The service staff is friendly, professional and well informed about the local scene. The hotel now adds $25. a day to your room charge to tip housekeepers, bell men and valets.

The attractive bedrooms are spacious, ours had two queen beds, a gas fireplace, wet bar, coffee maker and a fully stocked frig. The beds are very comfortable with high quality linens and rich fabric spreads and pillows. We had two well padded arm chairs, good reading lamps, a coffee table, a desk and chair and a built in wall of cabinets hiding the tv plus extra storage. The large bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a dressing room with sink.

The balcony had two teak arm chairs and a small table, the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea looking across the gardens to the Monterey Bay in the afternoon sun.

At sunset many guests meet on the patio, around the fire pits to have a cocktail and watch the sunset while the Scottish piper plays mournful tunes on the bagpipe as he walks across the golf course closing it for the day. It's a charming ritual but too many guests and not enough bar tenders made for a long wait for a drink and not enough places to sit.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Peppoli, the in house Italian restaurant and an ok lunch at Roy's seafood restaurant. We went into Pacific Grove for Sunday brunch at Red House.

Room Tip: Ask for a partial ocean view room with a balcony.

This was just the most perfect 'getaway' our family could have had. On a 'stay and play' package, we were able to golf Pebble and Spanish Bay, enjoy delicious meals, stroll along a picture perfect shore and enjoy a bagpipe concert at night.

The room was perfect - had great amenities...fireplace, flatscreen, soak tub and spa treats. Did I mention the most comfy beds and pillows ever?

The golf was our focal point. Pebble is iconic and must be seen to be believed. It is everything you see on TV and more. The service is absolutely top notch; spending a day being treated like a 'pro' will be a moment in time I'll never forget.

That being said, I'd choose golf at Spanish Bay any day. Heavenly views - most have an ocean view and splendid service. It's 'slightly' more affordable and it's a short stroll from the front door of the hotel. Views from heaven.

This was an expensive couple of days, no doubt - jeez, it's Pebble, Baby!

Go - make a lifetime memory like we did.

Room Tip: there is a bad room in the joint

We stayed at the Inn on Feb. 4th-6th(great time to play the courses right before the Pro-Am). Service was impeccable from the moment we arrived. Our room was beautiful, and while not huge, we had plenty of room. The bed was comfortable. We opted for a garden view room, as we were planning to spend our time playing golf or being outside, and would only be in our room to sleep and shower, and we are glad for our choice.
We ate lunch at the Pub at Pebble Beach, and shared a veggie sandwich(very good). Dinner was at Stillwater, and it was not crowded at all. We are vegan, and they very nicely accommodated us with a great dinner that was not on the menu. On Sunday, we tried to have lunch at the Links at Spanish Bay. I asked the hostess if they had any vegan choices for lunch, and she flatly said no, that they used to have a veggie burger, but they took it off the menu. She then said encouragingly that they were redoing the menu, so maybe they would have something in the future(not much help for two hungry people). We headed to Roy's at the Inn. They said they were offering an "in between" menu at the time we arrived, which had nothing vegan. When we asked if they there was something simple they could do that was vegan, they were immediately accommodating! We had 2 vegan sushi rolls and steamed edamami(yum!). It was just what we needed to hold us over to dinner, which was also at Roy's, and they once again accommodated us with a delicious dinner!

We loved the bagpiper in the evening, and we were blessed with 2 beautiful sunsets. It got a little chilly as the sun went down, but we were prepared. Both evenings, we found a spot to sit on one of the walls, so we didn't get there really early either night.

My husband has stayed at the Lodge at Pebble Beach with a group of guys, and he liked the Inn at Spanish Bay for a stay with me. It was a trip of a lifetime! I just wish I had played better golf(but I birdied 7 at Pebble and hubby birdied 8!). Go and enjoy!

While I was not a guest at The Inn at Spanish Bay I did dine at Roy's one evening with a group of friends and I was able to witness a truly beautiful site, the bagpiper at sunset it was simply amazing! People gathering around the fire pits, enjoy cocktails, and just as the sun is about to set you can hear the bagpiper getting closer as he walks up the fairway to play right in front of us. They even had blankets on hand for those in need of one. It was truly a site to see and a must see for anyone staying in the area!!

This resort needs to be on everyone's bucket list. From the setting to the service to the rooms , all was exceptionally tasteful and wonderful without being over-the-top or snooty. Walking along the beach every morning was a fabulous way to start the day, then breakfast at Roy's and on to 17-mile drive and to Carmel for shopping or down to the wineries for a little tasting. The guys loved golfing Pebble Beach the best, followed by Spanish Bay and then Spyglass. We would rendezvous in the evening around the firepits for wine and a beautiful sunset accompanied by the music of the solitary bagpiper. Very memorable! We know why our companions have been going back for 20 years...We enjoyed dining at Casanova in Carmel as well as the resort restaurants.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful with great views.
