“Nice place but a little pricey.”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

We came down on the train from Oakland. The hotel is an easy walk from the station. The location is good but not having a car is a problem in some respects because there is only one cab in town. We got special spa room romance package. The extras were great: nice fruit basket, dipped strawberries, robes, etc. The problem is that, for us, the ghastly smell of the sulfur spa water was a big turnoff. My mistake, I should have realized. The restaurant is mediocre for the area and expensive. My shrimp cocktail cost over $2 per shrimp (they were not big either) and they served it in a soup plate. Much better choices in town. They did give us a discount because the TV was broken even though they replaced it the last day. Nice garden and pool area.

Last minute change of plans because of dire weather at Yosemite meant we headed to the coast to meet our American friends, they recommended we all stay at the Paso Robles Inn , what a fantastic plan that turned out to be. We met on the sunday morning at the Inn for breakfast , we ate in the main restaurant , breakfast choices were many and all dishes went down well . we spent the day wine tasting in the local wineries and then after lunch arrived back at the inn to check in, helpful and polite staff checked us in to our respective rooms, we were in the normal doubles in the converted older blocks , the room was great all new mod cons and a huge bed. Lovely new bathroom loads of room and light. our friends had a spa room , which was even nicer and had the mineral spa bath on the balcony , which can be curtained off for privacy.
We had a couple of hours rest before meeting up for a walk around the beautiful town square just accross the street, loads of bars ,shops and eateries even a cinema. after a pre dinner drink at mcclintocks we returned to the inns steak restaurant were we all had the set dinner special and flight of wines , fantastic !!!
On Monday morning we had a leisurely breakfast in the inn restaurant ( we had a big drive ahead so had very hearty breakfasts!!) which again were great and all served by helpful happy staff. We had a group photo taken by desk staff ( they offered ) as we checked out.
we will be returning regularly it might even be our place to catch up with our friends!!

Room Tip: all rooms were nice but for a treat worth getting the spa rooms

For the past 7 years my husband and I have gone to see a concert at the Paso Robles fair. We spend the night at the Paso Robles Inn because it has been a great hotel and its proximity to the fair. Last year the stay there was not at all what we had experienced previously. I wrote a negative review after our stay. We tried it again this year and had a wonderful time.....it is definitely back to the way it was! I'm glad we gave it another chance! By all means, try this lovely, historical, 'gem'!

This inn is right in the center of town so for me and my girlfriends who were there for wine tasting it was perfect because we could walk to all the shopping, bars and restaurants. The grounds are beautiful, lush and green and very picturesque. Our balcony overlooked the interior gardens which added to the relaxation of soaking in the natural hot springs spa that was in the balcony. Great feature, but be aware there is a sulfur smell that comes along with the spring water. Our room and bathroom were both clean and spacious and there is a great restaurant downstairs (a steakhouse) that is super convenient when you are hung over and just need to eat a big breakfast before getting on the road! It was a little pricey but as I went with 3 girlfriends we split the 2 queen bedroom 4 ways and this was well with it.

We had just finished camping in Sequoia and were looking for a nice spot to relax. Unbeknownst to us, he mid-state fair was going on. So we had stopped off at three hotels before finally finding one that had vacancies available, the Paso Robles Inn. The only room available that had 2 queen beds was a suite. The room had a separate living area with TV from the bedroom which was very nice. The bathroom was nicely styled with bath and body works soaps and shampoos. The suite also offered a mineral hot tub located on the patio which came with some fragances to hide the natural sulfur smells. However, the patio looked out onto a nice fountain but also the parking lot. So no real privacy. Unfortunately the rooms were not very clean. The carpet was stained and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been swept. The hotel was definitely in prime location though. It was right across the street from downtown (this also meant that the rooms in the front were noisy with street traffic). Lots of restaurants and shops to choose from. And there was a park with a playground just across the street. And the site is very close to the Paso vineyards.

Despite claims to the contrary, I don't consider this an historic inn. The site is historic. Most of the original inn burned to the ground and was rebuilt as a motor lodge (ie, motel) in the 1940's. If you like cramped rooms, hard beds, and 1970's decor, this place is a donkey ride to heaven. Otherwise, look elsewhere. It's overpriced for what you get. In fairness, it was clean, the internet was free, and it is an easy stroll into town. But I would not go back, and would not recommend it.

But I have to say the ad sells it much better than our arrival. The hotel is next to a gas station and the hallways leading to our room were dirty and the walls were scuffed up. The carpeting in our room which was located in the "newly renovated" building was wrinkled and our window and balcony had a view of the garbage dumpsters behind the gas station, though the waterfalls on the grounds masked some of the street noise. The place is not expensive but I have stayed in Best Westerns that were better for sleeping in. The bed and pillows were awful and I had a neck cramp for days.
