Summerwood Winery & Inn

My husband & I just returned from a trip to California, which included 2 nights at Summerwood. We had booked the Bordeaux Room, an upstairs room on the corner, but upon seeing the Moscato Allegro room, we quickly upgraded. Well worth the upgrade with its first floor patio that opened right onto the vineyard, jacuzzi tub, fireplace & king size bed. Only two complaints with the room: the jacuzzi jets needed to be cleaned, as we had to run the jets for quite some time to get the dust out. Also, they seemed to cut corners on the bathrooms. There was mildew, no pressure in the shower and overall it needed a facelift.

The afternoon treats are wonderful, though get there right at 5:00 if you want snacks & wine. They don't replenish either between 5 & 7. Breakfast was excellent, though portions were a bit small. They did accomodate special requests that weren't on the normal menu, which was nice.

Warning: don't order a bathrobe! The bathrobes are incredible (made by Telegraph Hill) and so sumptuous that I had to order one. They had it shipped to my house for a total cost of $144+. The receipt included in the box when the bathrobe arrived was for $39.00 plus $10 shipping. So Summerwood marks them up $100!!!! They did only charge me $49 when I called to complain.

Overall, this was a very nice inn...location can't be beat and staying right on a vineyard was spectacular.

The Summerwood Inn is awesome from start to finish. It is located just across the drive from their winery. The grounds are gorgeous and lush with the vines and such a relaxing and quiet location. From the moment you walk up the drive and are greeted by the Innkeeper (in our case Judy) you are welcomed warmly. We stayed in the Bordeaux Room which had a very comfortable queen bed, balcony with chairs for sipping your morning cofffee, and a gas fireplace. The bathroom is quite large with a separate water closet, a bathtub, and shower large enough for about 10 people. It was huge. Other reviews mentioned the water pressure but it's not the water pressure it's that in the whole area they use softened water which makes the water pressure seem too low. In your room there is bottled water and a bottle of the Summerwood Winery's Cabernet wine complimentary.

In the afternoon from 5-6pm they serve wine and appetizers in the great room and these are not just your cheese and cracker type of appetizers. They serve gourmet appetizers delicious enough you could almost feast on them for dinner. Some of them included beef wellington, fruit, cheese, crab cakes, and crackers.

In the evening they serve desserts and coffee and tea, also delicious.

In the evening they also do turndown service where they will leave you chocolates filled with Zinfandel and pick up your breakfast menu that you've filled out for the next morning. Everything from pancakes to oatmeal to eggs benedict. Also delicious.

Overall a very delightful experience. We will definetely be back!

Really a nice experience all around. The staff and chef are very courteous, proffesional and helpful. The winery and grounds are really magnificent, especially first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee in hand. Everything is clean and well-maintained.

Fantastic location across from their own winery (you get a free bottle upon arrival--nice touch) and close to everything in town and other wineries.

The only downfalls were poor water pressure in the shower, no central heat for winter months, and a bit uncomfortable mattresses on the beds.

We would definately go back.

My friend and I spent a night at the Summerwood Inn, and were extremely impressed with the warm hospitality and elegant ambience of this fine establishment. The inn itself is a spacious, handsomely decorated building, our room was most welcoming (the fireplace and complimentary bottle of Summerwood Zinfandel added to the feeling of luxury and comfort!), and the afternoon wine & cheese spread as well as the splendid breakfast were truly sumptuous. Indeed, the owners have spared no detail in providing a thoroughly enjoyable experience for their guests, and we would recommend the inn to anyone desiring a first-class bed & breakfast experience.

P.S. The Summerwood Winery, located directly across the street from the Inn, offers a wide array of high-quality wines representative of the best the Paso Robles district has to offer.

This place is wonderful. Can not say enough good things about the accomodations..rooms are large and pristine, the view from balcony of vineyards is lovely, generous and delicious breakfast on patio, wine and yummy snacks in the afternoon. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Location can't be beat for winery hopping.
